WOW, If there has ever been a meeting to match this in recent years at Monmore( or anywhere else in the country) like this one I certainly cannot remember it.
The Ipswich Witches rode into town on their broomsticks ( and also in a coach, when was the last time one of them was seen on the car park) CVS TAKE NOTE FOR THE TRIP TO POOLE!! to do battle to tackle the Pirates next week. We all knew it would be close, but this close!!!!................
( I am writing this off my programme notes and not with the advantage of seeing the meeting again on Sky,so my apologies as the whole night now seems like a huge blur, but here goes.

HEAT 1
Andersen.MAX,LINDGREN,Jansson. 3-3 3-3 57.26
At the first time of asking Jansson falls on the first bend with a little help from Mikael. In the rerun Andersen gates mikael tries to challenge for a couple of laps then deciides to watch Freddie home to share the points.
HEAT 2
NEATH,SKORNICKI,King,PICKERING f/ex 5-1 8-4 58.87
Yet another rerun after Pickering falls entering the 3rd turn at the back, after suffering engine problems?
Chris and King ride side by side for 2 laps before Chris is able to force King wide and Adam who had been lying in wait also dives through to bring home the 5 points. A great race by the 2 young Brits.
HEAT 3
Jensen,Louis,ERMOLENKO,LINDGREN 1-5 9-9 58.47
Jesper gates and Louis does his customary dive up the inside down the back straight to pass a subdued Sam who cannot get back into a challenging position.
HEAT 4
Nicholls,SKORNICKI,HOWE,Pickering 3-3 12-12 57.62
Pickering gets a flyer and is on a 5-1 with Nicholls, on lap 2 Adan dives under pickering and David follows him through but Nicholls is an easy winner.
HEAT 5
Andersen,ERMOLENKO,Jansson NEATH. 2-4 14-16 58.42
Andersen is away again. Sam keeps lookig for an oppotunity to get Chris into 3rd but Chris' bike seems underpower and Jansson holds on
HEAT 6
MAX, NICHOLLS,LINDGREN,King 4-2 18-18 57.68
Freddie gates but Nicholls goes past down the back straight. Enter Mikael who dives round the outside on the 3rd bend to emerge in the lead as they start lap 2 and the scores are level
HEAT 7
HOWE,Jensen,NEATH,Louis 4-2 22-20 58.34
David gates and chris is 3rd with 'whit line Louis on his tail for all 4 laps. Great job by Chris for a crucial point .
HEAT 8
LINDGREN,SKORNICKI,Jansson,Pickering 5-1 27-21 59.44
Jansson gates but totally messes up the first corner allowing our boys through for what turns into an easy 5-1
HEAT 9
Nicholls,SKORNICKI,King,ERMOLENKO F 2-4 29-25 59.1
A terrible gate by Sam and in his efforts to close falls on the first corner of lap 2. Adam manages to pass the fast gating King on lap 2
HEAT 10
MAX,Jensen,LINDGREN,Louis 4-2 33-27 58.47
Mikael enters the 3rd turn at the back but exits it in the lead, diving through the eye of a needle to pass Jensen, amazing racing. Freddie challenges Jensen all the way while the white line man is never too far away from Freddie's rear wheel.
Heat 11
Andersen,HOWE,Jansson,NEATH 2-4 35-31 58.76
Yet again we miss the start. david makes a brilliant cut back on Jansson to dive under him down the back straight on lap 4 to grab a crucial 2nd spot. Chris is off the pace in this one though.
HEAT 12
King,Jensen,SKORNICKI,ERMOLENKO EX 1-5 36-36
Again Ipswich fly from the tapes and Sam in his eagerness to pass falls on the first turn of lap 3. The ref awards the race although there must be a strong case that Adam was in a good position to grab second spot from King. All square again.
Heat 13
Andersen,HOWE,MAX,Nicholls ex 3-3 39-39 58.76
All 4 riders are together as the y enter lap 4, David goes hard but fairly under Nicholls who bails out, at the same time Mikael's bike dies as he coasts down the back straight. Mikael looks back I,m sure in amazement to see Nicholls remount only to ride off the track and back to the pits leaving Mikael to push home for the point to the delight of all the fans on the terraces.
HEAT 14
Louis,ERMOLENKO,SKORNICKI,King ef 3-3 42-42 58.69
Louis is jet propelled from the gate followed by King At the start of lap 3 both Wolves are about to dive under King as his bike expires leaving us with a last heat decider........
HEAT 15
MAX,Andersen,Nicholls,Howe 3-3 45-45 58.05
Mikael gates and david is behind him as they enter turn 3, however david seems to get caught mid track and he is passed on either side by the Ipswich pairing Despite all Davids efforts he cannot pass the team riding Witches. Mikael wins by a good distance.
RUN OFF
Wolves win the toss and take the inside gate
Mikael gates and holds the inside, Andersen goes straight for the dirt. Mikael then rides a very wide line and almost touches the airfence on every corner,Andersen tries valiantly on the inside and is never more than a couple of bike lengths behind for what seems like 104 laps. Mikael takes it by about 11/2 lengths and the crowd do wild.
A tremendous end to a tremendous meeting. Full credit to all 13 riders for some hard fought but fair racing.

CHRIS *** Excellent ride in heat 2, although slightly off the pace in his others picked up an important point by beating Louis.

STAR RATINGS
Weather ***** A lovely warm night for speedway.
Attendance ***** A real Stoat of a crowd swelled by a good east Anglian presence.
Wolves Performance**** Made hard work due to our total lack of gating yet our desire to win was unquestionable.
Entertainment value There just isnt enough stars to answer this one. One of the all time classic speedway meetings ever seen I would imagine
Man of the Match. It was looking close towards the end but there is really only 1 MIKEAL MAX
Referee ? **** Missed a flyer from Pickering and maybe was a bit hasty in awarding heat 12 otherwise a good nights work.
So we reach the final and the Pirates come sailing into town next week.
More of the same please, with maybe a few extra points for the return leg.
Right I'm off now to rest my poor aching throat.
See you guys next week at the home of great speedway
