Phew... We got there in the end thanks to an inspired Heat 15 from Freddie and Niels......
but should it really have been that close?
Heat 1 started well as Ales gated from gate 2 and Freddie got across Crump into turn 1. Forsberg nudged Crumpy out and proceeded to ride the inside leaving Crump no chance to challenge. Ales won easily with Fred in 2nd.
Heat 2 saw the Belle Vue pairing emerge from turn 2 in 1st and 2nd. Kenny picked up the drive from the 'Karlsson corridoor' and stormed under them on the back straight. Watson panicked and bailed out on turn 3. Ken was carrying a lot of speed and drifted wide allowing Forsberg to cut back under him and on for the win. Klindt passed Ken on lap 3 and gave chase but couldn't catch him.
Heat 3 saw Neils back a good start from 4, Hougard gated 2nd but Howe switched inside him off turn 2 and the boys had a relatively comfortable 5-1. Gjedde at the back after trying the outside run early and going backwards.
Heat 4 and Wolves made good starts. Jesper drifted off the line on turns 3 and 4 lap 1 and Forsberg came underneath him. He challenged Nicolai on the inside but Nic rode a good line to keep him at bay, pulling away towards the end. Jesper was a bit behind, but well ahead of a woeful Screen.
Heat 5 saw Crump emerge on a tac ride. He made no mistake, jetting from gate 4 and coming across the other 3 into the 1st turn. Niels tried to get there, but was just edged out and as a result locked up on turn 2 allowing Hougaard into second. Luckily (see heat 9) Niels stayed ahead of David allowing him to reel in Hougaard and eventually make the pass with a cutback of turn 4 on lap 4. Hougaard making a slight mistake on the bend helping his cause. David.. somewhere in the distance.
Heat 6 was pretty straight forward with Ales and Fred gating. Fred team riding well on the inside. Screen again well down and Watson outclassed.
Heat 7 Gjedde and Hougaard gated and pulled well clear of a struggling Monberg with Kenny at the back.
Heat 8 Panic Stations set in as Ales missed the start allowing Forsberg and the sloooow Screen to hit the front. Unfortunately Ales held up the clearly quicker Klindt so no passing was likely in this one.
Heat 9... The woefully slow Screen makes a good gate to hit the front and is quickly joined by the fast starting Watson. Howe makes his way past Watson (who was all over the place) on lap 2 with Iversen literally right behind him. Niels then spent the next two laps trying to force his way past David, almost putting both wheels on the grass in the process so that he could have a go, and most likely pass Screen. The clown Howe though blocked him off at every chance.
Heat 10 Wow.... An aggressive Ales Dryml! Fred and Ales gated to lead the race. On lap 2 Gjedde got down the inside of Ales on the back straight and dove inside him. Ales shut off and we all expected the usual acceptance of defeat. However he switched back to the inside out of turn 4 before returning the compliment to Gjedde on turn 1. However, he then managed to turn the bike superbly to hook up on the inside out of turn 2 and surge clear. An excellent ride from Ales. Fred untroubled up front.
Heat 11 Crump had a straight forward tapes to flag victory. Hansen made a good start and came round the outside on turns 1 and 2 to take second place. Monberg rode a good inside line to keep Forsberg at bay.
Interval.. during which Freddie came out on track and directed them to generate some dirt on the inside of turn 2, which they duly did. Well done, only took till end of August to work that one out.
Heat 12 What a race! Gjedde and Forsberg hit the front with Niels 3rd and Klindt at the back. Klindt slid off on turn 3 but remounted. Niels gave chase and passed Forsberg, going wide into turn 1 and cutting back up the inside of turn 2 on lap 2 to move into second. He then made the same move on Gjedde on lap 3 to hit the front and take a great victory.
Heat 13 A scorching start from Crump saw him roar to victory. Although Freddie closed a little he never really got close enough to challenge. Screen held of Monberg for 3rd to leave us 3 pts clear.
Heat 14 Kenny stayed in virtue of his improved last ride. Howe makes a decent start, but rather than swoop across the field to dominate the race he decides to go straight on, allowing Belle Vue to hit the front. Hansen and Howe then challenged Forsberg, Kenny round the outside, David round the inside, Kenny getting close to rounding him. David then decides to stuff Kenny taking him out of contention. He then finally gets enough drive out of turn 2 to come past Forsberg entering turn 3. He then forgets to turn though and allows Forsberg to comfortably repass him on the inside of turn 4. Another pathetic ride from DH. This left us 1pt behind entering the last race... something we should not have been had Howe let Iversen by in Heat 9.
Heat 15.. Wolves win the toss and take gates 2 and 4.. Iversen makes a great start from gate 4, but he swoops across to make the bend his own. Fred got the drop on Crump and pinned him to the inside. Iversen streaked clear and Fred held the inside for a 5-1 sending the decent sized crowd wild. Most noise hear at the Green in some time.
Ratings
Fred 4.5 out of 5.
Excellent from Fred, dropping 1pt to Crump. Good team riding too.
Ales 4 out of 5.
A good nights work, can't grumble with paid 10 from 4 from your number 2. Just messed up in Heat 8. Also showed aggression and made a pass (or repass)
Niels 4.5 out of 5
Superb riding from Niels, only blot was Heat 9, but then his team mate was to blame more there.
David 1.5 out of 5
Started promisingly in Heat 3... woeful from then on.
Jesper 1.5 out of 5
Slooow for most of the night and not gating.
Kenny
2.5 out of 5
Didn't ride too badly tonight, only Heat 7 was he well of the pace. Did well in Heat 2 to force his way through and was challenging in 14 till stuffed by his team mate.
Nicolai
3 out of 5
Started very brightly with 5 from his 1st 2. Held up by Ales in Heat 8 before trying too hard in his 4th and sliding off.
All in all a pretty entertaining evening with a good result to finish.
And we won't be in the play-offs (relegation). Peter Adams has worked out the points the other teams will finish on, and he says we just need to win 3 away matches. He's even told us which ones, Belle Vue twice and Peterborough.
We go to Belle Vue with Joe Haines in for Jesper.... lol.. Nice one PA.
Apologies for any typos in this report. Got back From New Zealand today, haven't slept for 2.5 days and typed all this without checking... Off to get some sleep!
