Well....
There is a saying about a game of two halves..
First 6 races, everything is brilliant. For once, the track is prepared well, there is grip on the inside of turn 2, if we don't gate we can pass (despite how poor our team has been the woeful tracks have not helped).
Niels beating Bjerre and Schlein, with ease, from the back. Freddie miles clear of anyone..
And then came the rain, lots of it.
Suddenly the track became a gaters paradise. Riders like Zabik and Bager, who earlier were making lightning starts but then disappering to about half a lap behind were able to gate and potter.. and I mean potter around to race victories in times some 6 seconds slower that earlier in the meeting. The crazy thing is, these guys would fall off if they had to ride any quicker!
The arrival of the train, to me, summed up our entire season. Nothing has gone our way at any time. Yes, we've been rubbish, but without the rain tonight we'd be taking a 20pt+ lead to the Showground.
Only other comment is Heat 14... the lead is still at 9.. still a chance to take something out the meeting... Bloody Howe, MAKES THE GATE, and by some distance against Bager and Zabik, yet somehow, before manages to move himself into last place. He then had the audacity to dive inside Ludvig on the last bend, move him over and claim 3rd place on the line.

Just got back from what must be the lowest point i have experienced following Wolves Speedway....it just summed things up when the riders were brought out on the truck for what is traditionally a victory parade....thankfully most of a decent turn out had left...not because of the falling rain but the fact is that they had had enough,Porky then asks Freddie if a point is enough.....time for the club/riders/promotion to stand up and acknowledge how bad they have this season

Peterborough weren't. In fact they were awful up until racing became an impossibility. There is one thing we have to do next season, and its more important than who is in the team. Get the track preparation sorted. Time and again this year we have stormed into early leads while there has been a bit of dirt down. Then, after heat 4, out come the graders.. no water is ever put down, and the trick turns into a gaters paradise.

The arrival of the train, to me, summed up our entire season. Sorry to pick up on a typo, but it's apt - is that the 20:09 departure for the Premier League? And I refuse to comment on Heat 14. I'm done with that issue and I say, "No more, we've been subjected long enough!" And, BTW, Mr 8, while we're on typos, you missed a C out of the title of this thread

BWitcher - as the old saying goes...its the same for both teams. We were at bloody HOME FFS! If we can't perform better than that then we deserve to go PL! Oh - still think David Howe's a steal for 2009 on that average? He's got that average for a damn good reason....I'll let YOU fill in the rest!

Yes it is the same for both teams. Bad conditions will always favour the away team, and when they have gating tarts, who are not actually capable of getting around the track in times of quicker than 59 seconds then it falls back into their favour.
We know about the results over the rest of the season, they have not been good enough. But tonight, for once, the team were up for it, absolutely flying in fact till the rain hit.

Howe was riding ok in his first two races, only 3rd places, but not far behind Bjerre and Schlein. His 3rd race was fine.. but he totally messed up heat 14, when he had actually made the gate. Yes, he would still be decent on that average, but I don't think he will fit into the shape of team we need and I also think that he has 'outstayed' his welcome. There were some quite voiciferous comments being shouted in his direction.

There were some quite voiciferous comments being shouted in his direction. If we have a team anything like this year's, I think he will fit in perfectly. Sorry, but for me, this cat's nine lives have been well and truly used up and it's time to move on, irrespective of end of season average.

Fair comment Samuel E. Despite the temptation of the average, I would now be inclined to agree.
Maybe he can return when he's a GP star, eh stevebrum? ;D

I came to watch tonight, and I was glad I came until heat 12. i looked at the rest of the heats and thought "were gonna screw this up" I even predicted jesper to fall off in heat 13. Well done Mort. A good performance from you.

As Bwitcher perfectly summed up . A match of 2 half . Pre rain and rain. Great composure by Morten in heat 1. Great pass by Niels in heat 3. Jesper`s one heat of worth in heat 4. Heat 6 up 16 and cruising - tacticals to come we all knew that. After heat 6 we FAILED to gain a heat advantage. Jesper was never going to beat Bjerre in heat 7. Schlein was just to quick and clever for Nic in heat 8. So ALL tacticals over - 11 points up. Thats great boys. The turning point and sign that the Panthers were not lieing down came in heat 10. They both gated and looked comfortable. THANK GOD Bjerre`s bike packed up because in the end it would have been a Panthers win NOT ours. Totally unacceptable. One heat win in the last 7 races was also telling. Why oh why are we falling away so badly?? What on earth is the problem with this side? ? Some stepped up - notably Morten and Luddy whilst others were shocking - notably jesper and david. Id like to have faith that this side CAN manage an overall win against a PL team. Im really not sure after tonight. Wolves Fred - 3 fine wins then caught out and no chance in the others 3/5 Morten - the best ive personally seen him ride. If only some our own assets could have came to the table as this young man MOTM - 4/5 Niels - started spectacularly tho was always trying. left wanting in the big heat 15 tho. 3.5/5 David - 3 steady 3rds doing a decent support role. But heat 14 was shocking after seeing him gate pretty well. Obviously wanted luddy to let him do the chasing hence why i reckon he chased for the point. not bothered who got it personally as neither werein a good position in that heat. 1.5/5 Jesper - good opener the backwards slowly. 2/5 Luddy - he will have as go and i hope he is back next year. 3/5 Nic - decent opener but didnt look comfortable in conditions 2.5/5 Panthers Schlein - getting away from the flea pit has revived him. Was commited to the Panthers cause. 4/5 Dryml - was never in contention - 0/5 Bjerre - what a star he could be here (please CVS!!!!!) 4.5/5 bager - got better with 2 easy wins to close - 3.5/5 King - good job he wasnt on his good monmore form. struggled big time in conditions 0.5/5 zabik - struggled for 2 heats then came alive. Getting used to Monmore now and was a real handful in the 2nd half. Vissing - another that struggled with the track but was able to keep morten tamed in heat 6. 0/5/5

I think it's generally accepted that poor track conditions or weather often proves to be a leveller and lessens the home advantage. I don't think it usually leads to the away side winning those heats by 15 points!

This is true Mr X.
But, we have seen this ALL year long, and even further back than this year with previous teams.
Our teams do not gate well. We have survived in the past due to having an excellent track and being able to overtake when necessary, often on the inside of turn 2 on the 1st lap.. or similar move later.
This year, time and time again, there has been nothing left after about Heat 6. Its no co-incidence that in meeting after meeting after meeting we dominate early on, then as the track slickens off, the away teams gating tarts come to the fore and we are unable to pass.
I am not saying this team is good, far from it. But neither have we learned during the whole season the mistakes in our track preperation.
Last night was another example, although this time, it was caused by the weather, and perhaps to a more extreme level too.
