62 was the track record for years. The remarkable thing was that Ole did the time in heat 20 of a midland riders championship qualifying round. Briggo came second, about half a lap behind! What hapened thereafter was the track was altered and made quite a lot shorter. Olsen's track record stood for years though.
Anyway, its 44-31.

I realize that, Martin... I recall Ole equalling his own mark, maybe against Dave Jessup in a Golden Helmet match-race.
I also recall that the 'spoon' allegedly equalled it too... I just don't believe it!
Surely 62.0 was broken before the shape of the track changed?

Cov 43, BV 19. I feel really sorry for Nigel and Jonno, who have to make it sound exciting!
Good to see PK up, even if he isn't fit.

I'm not sure that it was. It was certainly beyond Jim McMillan and George Hunter 76-79. I can't remember when the track was altered but whether Ole's record was beaten before it was i cannot remember.
Eagles 37-35 up at Peterboro!

51-36 after 14. Another home win, well done Wolves.
56-37.
And the eagles are 44-40 up with one to go!

Hi Folks,
The track shape was changed before the 1984 reopening as the white line was taken in to enable the fence to be moved inside the lamp standards (new safety rules).
It was certainly beaten before then. I remember Hans Nielsen losing a Golden Helmet race to Dave Jessup (I think) and pushing him all the way. That took a big chunk out of the record - must have been 1980. That might have been the first time 62.0 was beaten, can't be sure though...

All to play for. If we can keep everyone fit, we can have an exciting finish.

Might be wrong but ,at the back of my mind I seem to remember Steve Bastable breaking the 62.0 , I think it went to something like 61.9 or 61.7
