Now I don't like to blow my own trumpet. Its immoral for one thing and probably illegal (except in Shropshire). But I honestly believe that I invented live speedway updates. Way back in the early days of the internet, before Wolfcry forum, British Speedway Forum or Live Updates forum, there were Yahoo mailing lists. You signed up and every email sent to the list was sent to everyone on it. There was a general speedway one, and a Wolves one run by Kevin (who is a member here). If you didn't go to a meeting, all you could do was phone clubcall and get your phone bill hammered or possibly ring the track and ask them the score.
So I couldn't go to one away match and got Mark Sawbridge to ring me up with the updates and I sent them to the list. Seemed a simple idea, except mobile phones were really expensive, and one match at Edinburgh, he was nipping into the stand and ringing me from a call box! It caught on, we graduated from there to the old Wolfcry website and eventually on here. Sue was much more ambitious and went for every meeting which is brilliant. So I take the blame...

Good to see the chat thread and old school updates. Perhaps Stevebrum could have a word with Nigel at the interval for his thoughts on the season?

Heat 3. Wells ef on second lap when third. TAI under Bomber on last turn in manoeuvre desribed as 'hard but fair'.
Easy 5-1 in 4. Gjedde chased for a lap. Risager compared to a Dudley rider.

Mr X. Monday night, around 10 o clock, BBC 1, Page 368, hurry up for Christ's sake, got to go to work in the morning. ;D
Wasn't there a guy at the end of the meet who bagged the payphone in the foyer at Monmore giving the result over. E & S?
Used to spend a fortune on Clubcall until I realised the Screaming Idiot Spoon was involved ;D

237 people watching (maybe thinking, like me, what's Schlein done to upset BW?)

Evening all... I can't interact much at the moment as I'm under the gun to get something done (poetry?).
I'm saddened that Wolfcry is closing its doors. Such is the impermanence of life: nothing lasts forever.
I'd like to thank the two Marks (and those who supported them) for such a wonderful site over the years. It's been a wonderful way for me to keep in touch from across the miles... HUGE THANKS!

It was Krissie's idea to do more than one track after she did a similar thing to you for sending results to Adam Shields' mum back in Australia....I just took it to another level after that to cover all leagues and some other countries. Although there is a fine line between ambitious and mad! ;D And oh gawd, I remember how expensive it used to be, when I started texting back in 2003 ish, I had a pay and go mobile and one meeting would cost me over £5 to text...even as recently as last season, updates (the whole thing, not just texting from Ipswich), was costing me over £120 a month during the speedway season, thankfully 3 allowed me to change my tariff this year and the cost has reduced slightly (although the Aussie updates are not covered in my tariff and are still rather expensive).
