If that is the case ( please tell me if I am wrong), why then do only 2 of these matches fall anywhere near to a GP 11th July and 20th August are the 2 dates which fall into this catagory What benefit is there in riding 2 meetings in March and April, when the GP series doesn't start until May

I think the intention was that the EL teams (especially weekend tracks) staged their home matches around the GP rounds - if you look at our home fixtures this is the case. The PL teams will stage theirs whenever they think they are the biggest attraction. Problem with our group is we have some obvious fixture clashes Newport (Sunday - Polish League) and Trelawny (Tuesday - Swedish League) - hence the early season dates. Just goes to show that nothing is ever simple in speedway!
Continuity is a major problem in this competition. We have qualifying matches spread out from early March to the end of August, then we still have some sort of knockout for the final 8 teams to run in September and October (along with the playoffs and KO Cup later rounds) Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me...
