having been to this years exhibition (but not last years), I was wondering wha people's thought on the day were. Myself and Mini-yozza had a great time, with many of the riders being very warm and friendly, particularly to the youngsters. Mini-yozzas highlights were getting his hands on the championship trophy, and having his photo taken on Garry Steads bike, as well as meeting P.K and Mikael! Was it an improvement on last year? and can it improve further if it was?

We didn't go last year either yozza, but we were very impressed with it too. I used to go to some of the old shows in Coventry... it's come a very long way since then... very nice place too.
Cheers, Mark.

Mmmm.....I went today as well too, and last year, and all the other Speedway/Grasstrack shows but I still think it hasn't reached it's full potential. Probably this one was better than last year and the Coventry Crew certainly livened things up a bit! I still think there should be something going on continuously centre stage to keep our interest as it gets boring walking endlessly round. There should also be more seats to sit on, especially in the bar areas. Although you seem happy enough on here with the show, I know I am not alone in still being disappointed with it as a few people I was talking to wouldn't bother going again. What it needed more than anything was the presence of John Perrin! Where was he?

It was good but no better than last year. What disappointed me most was that no lessons were learned about the use of the centre stage. It would be so easy to arrange for a continuous stream of riders etc to get up there and talk to the audience so there is always a focal point for peoples' attention.
On the same subject, someone should instruct the riders on how to speak properly into a microphone. Nearly all of them mumble incoherently and the opportunity to sell themselves is lost. Ryan Sullivan was particularly disappointing, given his high profile. He didn't do himself justice.
It's a pity some stands were little more than glorified track shops. Amongst them all, I reckon Berwick deserved the prize for the stand that looked most like a market stall. Speedway trainers, I ask you?!?!
Some other stands were excellent. For me Newcastle and Carmarthen stood out. It was pleasing get a close look at the trophies on display on the Wolves, Sheffield, Scott Nicholls, and Eastbourne stands. The collector's fair was pretty good too.
To this hardened fan it was a good prelude to the season, but it didn't seem to be publicising the sport beyond the converted.

I think this years show was slightly better than last years. I also agree that the centre stage could be put to more use during the day. What happened to interviewing some of the Wolves riders, after all we are Elite league champions. Altogether though a most enjoyable but tiring day ;D Please can we have some more seats next year??

I would have liked to give the show a try but I'm glad I didn't go as Joy said there was a lack of seating. It was surguested on the internet after last year's show that they did something on the centre stage but the promoters think they know best I guess. Maybe next year they should have something along the lines of our talk-in with riders and promoters on the stage with questions from the fans. ;D Maybe they wouldn't like some of the questons they think would be asked.

I agree with your comments about the centre stage being put to more use. It would be good to hear riders replies to questions asked by the fans on a one to many basis rather than one to one, as if I did have a moan about yesterday, it would be how easily some riders were distracted when you were talking to them. Having said that, most of them were very approachable, particularly P.K, Garry Stead, Ryan Sullivan and (dare I say it?).......Billy Janniro.

What it needed more than anything was the presence of John Perrin! Where was he? In my opinion you have hit the three main items on the head Gem 1} There is no doubt they were the stars of the show. If they perform every week at Brandon, how come you had such poor crowds last season Gem . 2} Better use of the stage is needed, maybe constant interviews, competitions eg riders competing to change an engine on a bike. Supporters quizes. Question and answer sessions with riders and promoters. 3} Although the stalls were really informative, maybe more spectator interaction somehow Many people I spoke to said it was an improvement on last years(which is the main thing) Meg however, after the initial walk round all the stalls found little to interest her and soon got bored,. All said and done a thoroughly good day out and congratulations to all involved.

I think that is the main criticism of the Show - that the centre stage is not used enough. Something should be going on ALL of the time to keep the fans interest. I did send CVS an email regarding this a few weeks ago (as chairman of the BSPA who organised it) because they seemed to be under the impression that last year's show was a tremendous success. However, what do I as a mere fan know? No-one seems to take any notice of what we think.

;D...I wasn't expecting a reply Beegee - I'm not that daft. It would, however, be nice if the promoters of the Speedway Show would take some notice of what we are saying because afterall we are the ones paying to get in and without us it would all be a bit of a flop. If anyone is listening out there - next year we need something happening continuously on the stage please and more seats around the outside of the hall to rest our weary legs. (Looks like it will just be me and the dog making the trip anyway as my husband has said he's not going again.)
