7th April 2003… Wolverhampton 45 Poole 45… Elite League 'A'
Wolverhampton
Mikael Max 2 2 2 2 2 10
Rider Replacement 0
Sam Ermolenko Fx 3 1 1 5
Adam Skornicki 3 1 3 3 0 10
Peter Karlsson 0 3 3 1* 1* 8 + 2
Chris Neath 0 3 1 2* 0 0 2 8 + 1
Magnus Karlsson 2* 1 0 1 4 + 1
Poole
Leigh Adams 3 2 3 2 3 0 13
Rider Replacement 0
Lukas Dryml 2 2 1 2* 7 + 1
Bjarne Pedersen 1* 0 1 3 5 + 1
Tony Rickardsson 3 3 2 3 0 3 14
David Ruud 1 2* 1 0 0 4 + 1
Andre Compton 1 Fx 0 0 1 2
Another very exciting match at the Green with lots of passing and a last heat decider. Wolves could have/should have (please delete appropriately) won the meeting but nobody can really argue with the draw. David Howe would have made a difference as We only managed three points from Rider replacement. Pretty hard to think about gaining the bonus point from these pair of fixtures now.
Heat 1 - Leigh Adams ; Mikael Max ; Andre Compton ; Chris Neath ; 56.6 (2-4)(2-4)
From the gate but Mikael did not have enough power to mount an effective challenge. The first of a long line of second places for him.
Heat 2 - Chris Neath ; Magnus Karlsson ; David Ruud ; Andre Compton(Fx) ; 59.6 (5-1)(7-5)
It was looking like a drawn heat when the unlucky Compton fell whilst leading on the last bend of the race allowing Chris and Magnus through for a 5-1. Ruud closed down Magnus but didn’t quite make it.
Heat 3 - Adam Skornicki ; Lukas Dryml ; Bjarne Pedersen ; Sam Ermolenko(Fx) ; 58.7 (3-3)(10-8)
Scorching win for Adam from the tapes. Dryml looked very quick in second. Sam rode some weird lines and fell whilst in last place on the fourth bend last lap. As MM2 would say ‘Mmmm Donuts!’ (or was it Homer?)
Heat 4 - Tony Rickardsson ; David Ruud ; Magnus Karlsson ; Peter Karlsson ; 58.9 (1-5)(11-13)
Unusually PK fell on the first lap third bend as he chased Trick (PK doesn’t fall off!). Ruud followed him home for an easy maximum heat win.
Heat 5 - Sam Ermolenko ; Leigh Adams ; Adam Skornicki ; Andre Compton ; 58.6 (4-2)(15-15)
Bizarre race - Sam was leading fairly easily for most of the race and Adam was successfully fending off Leigh Adams. Sam then totally messed up the fourth bend allowing Adams through and blocking Adam in the process. Sam then regained first place but lost the team a probable 5-1 and Adam some points money. Disappointing to see Sam celebrate with wheelies what was in fact a mess-up.
Heat 6 - Tony Rickardsson ; Mikael Max ; David Ruud ; Magnus Karlsson ; 57.1 (2-4)(17-19)
Cool win for Trick with Mikael once again unable to race on even terms. Magnus was reeled in and passed on the very last bend by Ruud.
Heat 7 - Peter Karlsson ; Lukas Dryml ; Chris Neath ; Bjarne Pedersen ; 58.3 (4-2)(21-21)
Easy win for PK. Chris rode a great race to hold off GP Star Dryml for much of it and finished ahead of Pedersen.
Heat 8 - Adam Skornicki ; Chris Neath ; Bjarne Pedersen ; Andre Compton ; 59.0 (5-1)(26-22)
Superb maximum from Adam and Chris – from the tapes. Deserved a donut but Adam sensibly declined as he was racing in the next heat.
Heat 9 - Adam Skornicki ; Tony Rickardsson ; Sam Ermolenko ; David Ruud ; 58.8 (4-2)(30-24)
Gotta be the STAR RIDE of the night. Adam rode all of the lines necessary to keep the very determined Tony Rickardsson behind him for the whole race.
Heat 10 - Leigh Adams ; Mikael Max ; Lukas Dryml ; Chris Neath ; 57.9 (2-4)(32-28)
Adams comes in as tac sub and wins easily from Mikael who still seems to be well off the pace. Dryml passes Chris for third.
Heat 11 - Peter Karlsson ; Leigh Adams ; Magnus Karlsson ; David Ruud ; 58.5 (4-2)(36-30)
Peter was determined to win this heat and Adams tried every trick and got his nose in front a couple of times but PK held his lines and recorded a good win. Magnus showed that he has found the Karlsson ‘spot’ on the inside of the second bend and absolutely flew out of it a couple of times.
Heat 12 - Tony Rickardsson ; Lukas Dryml ; Sam Ermolenko ; Chris Neath ; 58.8 (1-5)(37-35)
Rickardsson in as tac sub as expected and a 5-1 with Dryml. Sam messed up most of the bends as he passed and was then being repassed by Dryml.
Heat 13 - Leigh Adams ; Mikael Max ; Peter Karlsson ; Tony Rickardsson ; 58.5 (3-3)(40-38)
Adams wins from the tapes, Mike follows 30 metres behind, Peter makes a superb inside pass of Rickardsson for third place, which he then celebrates emphatically. Great race for the last point!
Heat 14 - Bjarne Pedersen ; Chris Neath ; Andre Compton ; Adam Skornicki ; 59.4 (2-4)(42-42)
Disappointment as our two gaters Adam and Chris both mess up the start. Chris recovers to hold second but Adam is unable to make ground on Compton who rode a neat race and probably earned his team the draw as Wolves would have expected to win or at least draw this heat.
Heat 15 - Tony Rickardsson ; Mikael Max ; Peter Karlsson ; Leigh Adams ; 58.7 (3-3)(45-45)
Reversal of heat 13 with Rickardsson trapping and emerging from the first/second bend ahead of the Wolves pair who manage to ‘pack in’ for the minor places. (sorry for Sky speak)
Wolves
This was a match we should have won so who let us down? You have to point the finger at all three of the heatleaders…
Mikael: Off the pace all night and probably the rider to be held most responsible for us not winning. But he still got double figures.
Sam: Up and down again. Also cost the team a 5-1 by getting in Adam’s way in heat 5. Five points is not enough.
Adam: Had been designated as God after his win over Trick but was reduced to something slightly less after heat 14! Still an impressive night’s racing.
Peter: Same as Mikael really, in that he didn’t really look as competitive as usual.
Chris: Must have been tired after having seven rides again. Paid 9 is a good result and he had a couple of excellent rides. Our best gater by a mile.
Magnus: Not a bagful of points but a solid performance.
Poole
Rode as if they wanted to win more than we did and deserved the draw.
Five Star Ratings
Weather: **** Lovely evening, but chuffin’ cold
Track Conditions: *** Smooth and a fair bit of dirt at the start but it became slick especially on the outside line – to Poole’s advantage.
Attendance: **** A large crowd for a Poole meeting. One Poole fan had even driven up in his skip lorry.
Entertainment Value: *** Probably the right result and some exciting racing
Wolves Performance: *** ‘Could do better’ is the report comment for the top three. 25 combined points from them is not sufficient.
Man of the Match: Adam Skornicki – no doubt
Referee (Craig Ackroyd): **** No decisions to make.
Safe journey to everyone going to Trelawny tomorrow and Ipswich on Thursday (rumour has it that Ipswich have Hancock to replace Hampel who is injured)
