Unfortunately, due to our positioning on the Grassy Knoll no heat times are currently available (sorryyyyy).
Heat 1
MAX, CORREY, Lyons, Screen 1-5 1-5
Mikael and Screen gated, Mikael forced Screen wide allowing Ronnie to cut back and join Mikael at the front. On the final lap Screen's bike lost power. The Wolves contingent duly burst into song!!!
Heat 2
Smith, KRYS, MAGNUS, Masters 3-3 4-8
Wolves gate (AGAIN) with Krys leading Magnus for 1 3/4 laps til the Aces both went under Magnus on the 3rd bend. Magnus then went under Masters at the start of the last lap and Masters fell. Immediately Krys reared and Smith took advantage to dive underneath him and pull away for the win.
Heat 3
Bjerre, FREDDIE, JOHNNO, Stead 3-3 7-11
Bjerre led all the way and steadily pulled away from Freddie while Johnno was obviously slower than Simon but blocked every move Stead tried - very clever ride.
Heat 4
Crump, DAVID, KRYS, Masters 3-3 10-14
Crump led from the gate but David was all over him for 4 laps. Krys looked comfortable in 3rd.
Heat 5
Bjerre, Stead, MIKAEL, RONNIE 5-1 15-15
Aces from the gate, Mikael passed Ronnie on 2nd lap.
Heat 6
DAVID, Lyons, Screen, MAGNUS 3-3 18-18
David gated but Lyons dived inside him on the 3rd bend 1st lap. However, David FLEW round the outside of Lyons on bend 4 and pulled away to win impressively.
Heat 7
Crump, FREDDIE, Smith, JOHNNO 4-2 22-20
Freddie gated but Crump dived up the inside forcing Freddie wide. Johhno in 3rd til caught by Smith right on the line.
Heat 8
Smith in for Masters
Lyons, Smith, RONNIE, KRYS 5-1 27-21
Smith gated from Krys, Lyons and Ronnie. Krys passed Smith while Lyons went outside both of them. Krys was then re-passed by Smith and Ronnie all on the 1st lap. Aces pulled away and Krys tailed off.
Heat 9
DAVID, Bjerre, Stead, MAGNUS 3-3 30-24
David all the way, although he locked up twice on the 4th bend allowing Bjerre to be quite close on the line. Magnus tailed off.
Heat 10
Lyons, JOHNNO, Screen, FREDDIE (F) 4-2 34-26
The Aces gated with Freddie close behind. On the last bend 2nd lap Freddie fell, but got up and pushed his bike to centre green. Johnno then got the bit between his teeth, chasing down and passing Joe Screen at the end of lap 3. Screen's bike then packed up, leaving him to push home.
Heat 11
Masters in for Smith
MIKAEL, Crump, RONNIE, Masters 2-4 36-30
Crump gated but Mikael passed him on the outside line of the 2nd bend. Ronnie then harried Crump for 2 1/2 laps before the Ginger One got away.
Heat 12
Smith in for Masters
Bjerre, Smith, MAGNUS, FREDDIE 5-1 41-31
Bjerre led Magnus til Smith dived inside Magnus on the 3rd bend 3rd lap.
Heat 13
Crump, MIKAEL, Screen, DAVID 4-4 45-35
Mikael in as a tactical ride.
Mikael led from the tapes but Crumpy forced him wide on the 2nd bend. David was all over Screen for all 4 laps but couldn't find a way past.
Heat 14
JOHNNO, Stead, Smith, KRYS 3-6 48-41
Johnno in as a tactical ride.
This was the race of the night!!! Johnno gated with Stead all over him. Stead got past on lap 2 but Johnno re-passed him on lap 3. Coming to the final bend Simon went for the big blast round the outside and looked a certain winner, but Johnno stayed low and found enough drive to hold him off. Krys half a lap behind in this one.
Heat 15
Belle Vue won the toss, took gates 1 and 3
Crump, Bjerre, MIKAEL, DAVID 5-1 53-42
Crump led from the Wolves pairing, however Bjerre passed David on lap 1. David then fell on 2nd bend lap 2, and Bjerre closed on Mikael until passing him on lap 3.
RATINGS
Weather ***** Couldn't have asked for a milder night.
Track conditions **** Track was smooth but well-prepared.
Attendance ***** A badger.....will Belle Vue see a crowd like this again this season (unless they reach the play-offs )?
Wolves performance *** Three stars for the three riders that rode anything like their potential
Entertainment value ***** Not a bad meeting, but the major entertainment centred around Lawt's birthday celebrations on the Grassy Knoll. Much champagne and cake was devoured by the Wolves faithful, who turned up in large numbers and were in party mode all evening.
Man of the Match - Three riders were involved in this; Mikael, David and Johnno, but JOHNNO gets my vote for undoubtedly being on slower equipment than several other riders, and being able to keep faster riders behind him with a very clever choice of riding lines all evening (I'm sure he had eyes in the back of his head).
Referee - D Dowling *** No decisions to make at all.
Rider Ratings
Mikael **** Showed both sides of himself tonight, beat Crump brilliantly in Heat 11 but lost out twice to Bjerre, who he should be beating.
Ronnie *** Good first ride, then lost momentum.
Freddie *** 2 good rides followed by 2 indifferent rides.
Johnno **** Would have been 5 stars if he hadn't let Smith past him in Heat 7. Rode with his head all night as his machinery didn't appear quick enough. A pretty good captain's performance.
David **** 3 terrific rides and unlucky in his other 2 rides.
Magnus ** Will take time to adjust to away tracks.
Krys *** Lighning gater, WILL improve. Looks a very aggressive young man.
Considering we're fancied to win the wooden spoon, and Belle Vue are fancied to win the title, it took them long enough to see us off!!! The meeting was ultimately won and lost, as are so many, by the reserves, and in particular one Andy Smith who came back to haunt us having been reviled on this site thoughout the winter.
Thanks to all the forum gang for a great night on the Grassy Knoll
