Poole Rias Pirates v. Parry's International Wolves
Elite League "A" 27 April 2005
Much speculation had preceded the match with expectation being that Poole would take a narrow home win, sacrificing the bonus point in their quest to manipulate their averages.
Despite a forecast of showers, the weather was bright and dry and the track appeared to have been watered evenly, although, typically of a Poole track, it looked as though the dirt would not last very long.
Poole Pirates
2. Bjarne Pedersen ef 1* 2* 3 3 = 9+2
5. Krzysztof Kasprzak 2 2 3 3 = 10
4. Matej Ferjan 3 0 3 2 = 8
3. Antonio Lindback 2* 3 2* 3 0 = 10+2
1. Ryan Sullivan 3 2 3 0 = 8
?. Kristian Lund 0 0 0 = 0
8. Antonin Svab 1 0 0 0 0 = 1
Wolves

Heat 1
Mikael, Kasprzak, Ronnie, Pedersen ef 58.38, 2-4
Pedersen ef at start.
Kasprzak gates but drifts wide on the 1st bend allowing Miakel through. Easy win for Mike, Kasprzak looks back on every bend but is never troubled for second.
Heat 2
Kris, Magnus, Svab, Lund 59.14, 1-5 (3-9)
Easy 5-1 for Wolves from the gate. Magnus doesn't look over comfortable on the track, but the Poole reserves are very poor and never get close.
Heat 3
Ferjan,Lindback,Freddie,Johnno 58.87, 5-1, (8-10)
Lindback anticipates the start and all 4 are called back for a re run. As the red lights come on Ferjan locks up on the first bend and is almost collected by Johnno.
From the start in the re run, Lindback blocks Freddie on the line allowing Ferjan around to take the lead. They ride side by side for 4 laps but are never really troubled by Freddie. Johnno never in it.
Heat 4
Sullivan, Kris, David, Svab 58.71, 3-3, (11-13)
From the gate. Easy win for Sullivan, with Svab nowhere. David doesn't look comfortable though.
Heat 5
Lindback, Ronnie, Mike, Ferjan 58.29, 3-3, (14-16)
Lindback gates and takes Mike wide on 1st and 2nd bends. Ronnie nips underneath, but Lindback passes him down the back straight. Mike does the same to Ferjan. Lindback has gone and the Wolves pair tuck in for the minor places.
Heat 6
David, Kasprzak, Pedersen, Magnus 59.34, 3-3, (17-19)
Bare patches already showing on entrances to turns 1 and 3.
David gates. The Poole riders are both close but not close enough. David still not comfirtable but holds on for the win. Kasprzak steals 2nd place from Pedersen off the last bend. Magnus way last.
Heat 7
Freddie, Sullivan, Johnno, Lund 59.15, 2-4, (19-23)
Freddie gates and won't be moved out of the way as Sullivan barges into him on the 1st bend. Freddie pulls clear for the win. Johnno is a distant 3rd but Lund is even further away in 4th.
Heat 8
Kasprzak, Kris, Ronnie, Svab 58.83, 3-3, (22-26)
From the gate.
Heat 9
Ferjan, Lindback, Magnus, David 59.10, 5-1, (27-27)
From the gate - again!
Both Wolves struggling somewhat in distant minor placings.
Heat 10.
Kasprzak, Pedersen, Freddie, Johnno 58.97, 5-1, (32-28)
Both Poole riders gate and head off into the distance with Johnno 3rd, but travelling too slowly for Freddie's liking. Freddie forces his way into 3rd on bend 1 of lap 3, and Johnno tails off. Freddie never close enough to challenge though.
Heat 11
Sullivan, Mike, Ronnie, Lund 60.03, 3-3, (35-31)
Sullivan gates. Mike pushes him for a lap before dropping back. Ronnie comfortable in 3rd.
Heat 12
Freddie, Ferjan, Kris (in for Magnus), Svab No time given, 2-4, (37-35)
Wolves gate on a 5-1 and hold onto it for a lap. Ferjan forces his way down the outside of Kris along the home straight of lap 1. Freddie is gone and there is no catching him. Svab way at the back again. There is a problem with communications from the Ref's Box and no time is announced.
Heat13
Magnus in for David - a bit of a surprise given that Magnus has not looked any more comfortable than David - until now!
Pedesen, Magnus, Mike, Sullivan No time given, 3-3, (40-38)
Fabulous gate from Magnus on gate 4 and he leads around the first 2 bends and down the back straight. Pedersen forces his way through on the inside as they enter bend 3. Mike meanwhile has nipped inside Sullivan around the 1st two bends and arrives to help Magnus out as they both exit the 4th bend. Pedersen has gone, but both Wolves ride an excellent race to keep Sullivan at bay. Mike TEAM RIDES - YES TEAM RIDES - and shepherds Magnus home for an excellent share of the points.
Heat 14
Lindback,Kris,Johnno, Svab(in for Lund) 59.67, 3-3, (43-41)
Svab in for Lund, but he hardly deserves an extra ride as they have both been dire!
Kris gates and leads around the first 2 bends, but sheer power takes Lindback past him down the back straight. Svab closes on Johnno for a lap before dropping back. Johnno a long way back again.
Heat 15
Poole win the toss and take gates 1 and 3.
Pedersen(R), Mike (Y), Freddie(G), Lindback(B) 59.88 3-3, 46-44
Any hopes of a surprise win or draw are dashed as Pedersen gates. Mike pushes him hard for a lap, and almost gets around him out of bend 4 and down the home straight of lap 1. Freddie drives inside Lindback out of bend 2. Mike is all over Pedersen for 4 laps but just can't find a way past. Freddie close on Mike with Lindback never close enough to challenge Freddie.
As predicted, a close home victory, helping the home side's cause in seeking to reduce their averages - but surely they can't have meant it to be this close!
Strong rumours from Poole fans of one - and possibly two Poles arriving as replacements.
A good performance to push Poole so close - and perhaps a bit more effort from a couple of riders might just have seen us spring a surprise, with Poole clearly having a weakness at reserve.
Weather: Fine and dry, cool later on. ***
Track: Evenly watered to start, but soon became slick. Very little passing. **
Attendance: Poole always have good crowds, but the holiday season hasn't yet arrived and was slightly down on previous crowds seen there ***
Wolves Performance: Good performance on the whole, let down by a couple of riders. ****
Referee: Frank Ebdon: Very little to do, but a ***** performance for getting the meeting through quickly on a cold night with a long journey home.
Man of the Match: Had to give this to Kris - although he only actually beat their reserves he did at least trouble a couple of their higher riders, and this was an excellent performance on his first visit to Poole.
Rider ratings:
Mikael **** looked sharper and better than his last 2 visits to Poole. Excellent team ride to see Magnus home in heat 13.
Ronnie *** Did everything that was expected of him.
Freddie Lindgren**** very close to getting man of the match. Unlucky to get blocked off in his first ride.
Johnno * Lucky to get that ! Looked very slow all night and not competitive - a bit more like his previous couple of meetings and we might just have sprung a surprise.
David ** Just doesn't seem able to crack the Poole track.
Magnus *** almost gave him **. He looked pretty poor early on, but rose to the challenge in heat 13 and had an excellent ride. Perhaps a couple of other riders might follow his example.
Kris **** Excellent performance . Led Ferjan and Lindback at some stage and looked steady all night.
Up the Wolves,
Wolfie.
