Heat one: Sullivan, Max, Correy, Lindback exc - 3-3
Mikael looked quick in heat 1, whilst looping Lindback cleared himself and Ronnie out in a rightful exclusion for the Rio rocket, whilst our rocket was seemingly unharmed.
Heat two: Ashworth, Magnus, Krzys, Johansson 3-3 6-6
Ashworth was too quick for our boys.
Heat three: Ferjan, Pedersen, Johno, Adam 5-1 11-7
A disappointing opening ride for both Johno and Adam saw us fall behind.
Heat four: Kasprzak, Krzys, Freddie, Ashworth - 3-3 14-10
Freddie set chase after the very impressive Kasprzak led the race in heat4.
Heat five: Mike, Pedersen, Ferjan, Ronnie - 3-3 17-13
A fantastic and fast race from Mikael who looked VERY quick to us and was a quarter of a lap ahead of the field - very impressive.
Heat six: Ashworth, Freddie, Sullivan, Magnus, Lindback exc 2 mins - 4-2 21-15
Another good race from Ashworth as Freddie tried everything to pass him - Sullivan sat on the line.
Heat seven: Kasprzak, Adam, Johno, Johansson 3-3 24-18
Another superb ride from Kasprzak - our boys unimpressive in the minor roles.
Heat eight: Magnus, Lindback, Ashworth, Ronnie, Krzys exc 2 mins - 3-3 27-21
A cracking ride for Magnus to gate and keep Lindback at bay the whole race - great stuff!
Heat nine: Ferjan, Freddie, Pedersen, Magnus 4-2 31-23
Another good battle for Freddie with both Ferjan and Pedersen.
Heat ten: Sullivan, Lindback, Adam, Johno ef 5-1 36-24
Another disappointing Johno and Adam ride that saw us fall 12 behind.
Heat eleven: Kasprzak, Mike (GD), Ronnie, Johansson. 3-5 39 -29
Enter super Max on a tac ride - however he tried hard to get past Kasprzak - full effort from the Max.
Heat twelve: ADAM (GD), Ferjan, Magnus, Ashworth - 2-7 41-36
Super ride from Adam on a tac ride - blasting wide round Ferjan for a bosting race - Magnus keeping out Ashworth. A much needed 7-2 and 5 down!
Heat thirteen: Kasprzak, Mike, Sullivan, Freddie ef 4-2 45-38
An unlucky heat 13. Kasprzak and Mike having another duel whilst Freddie worked hard for 3rd ahead of the dismal Sullivan then low and behold Freddie pulls up with engine problems or chain break to turn a 3 all into a pirate’s advantage - even the pirate’s fans were shouting abuse at Sullivan!
Heat fourteen: Pedersen, Krzys, Ashworth, Johno 2-4 49-40
Amazingly Johno was left in heat 14 - we couldn’t believe it as we felt Magnus had looked pretty good and deserved to join Krzys in this heat - in fact we felt that Krzys deserved more rides. As expected Johno was stranded at the back - the first hint of any passion from Johno saw him at least hunt down for a point against Ashworth and very nearly overtook him - however he shouldn’t have been in that position.
Heat fifteen: Pedersen, Mike, Freddie, Kasprzak ef - 3-3 52-43
Mikael again tried to chase Pedersen in heat 15 whilst Kasprzak pulled up with bike problems on lap 1 denying him a full house.
Well what can I say about yesterday’s mission? Here was I expecting to get my feet in the sand on my first visit to an away track in 3 years in the very capable hands of the Forum masters.
What do I get on arrival at Great Barr??? No, a detour to pick up Freddie at Heathrow! Well, can’t say that I wasn’t treated to a day out I won’t forget for a very long time!! A pretty clear run to Heathrow saw us an hour ahead of rendezvous and great watching the planes coming in so close at the visitor’s centre - absolutely cracking!!
Then on watching Fred’s plane touch down (I'm sure he waved at us out of the window!!) we headed off to arrivals to pick him up - that was mine and MM2’s responsibility. Then it dawned on me – I’ve never met or spoken to ANY of the riders as I’m completely in awe of them (sad I know but true - they are my heroes after all!!)
So we stand there with people looking at us (who wouldn’t, people probably thought what good taste supporting the multi-league champions and not the nasty fleas) and then there he was!! After shaking hands with both of us, we escorted him to the car and he said he was nervous - oh no we thought you will be fine at Poole - he then regaled how tight his flights were and he hung by the skin of his teeth to arriving. The life of a top rider becoming more clear and the tight schedules that they have.
Poor Fred was sandwiched between myself and Advisor (and I can confirm only she felt his thighs - I was pressed close against him but I can also confirm that to Sugababe and his many admirers that I took absolutely no pleasure in this, just so it’s clear!!!). Freddie soon got used to the banter and gave us some interesting tit bits of information (my lips are completely sealed Fred!!!)
Still an arrival just short of 7pm meant that the main man was there and in time to see the Wolves team at full strength.
As for the meeting itself? Well a small band of us (great to meet up with Beowulf and my fellow updater `8` and also to the infamous Steve Shovlar at the end of the meeting) and a few other dotted around the stadium were there to support the boys and we stood on the 2nd bend.
Stevebrum’s rider report>>>>>
Poole
Sullivan ** still not convinced this is a top line rider
Lindback** still looks uncontrolled at times
Ferjan*** gating tart award, but weighed in with a decent score.
Pedersen*** looked fast and always a threat.
Kasprzak***** first class
Johansson zero - as Ian Dury once said - `what a waste`
Ashworth**** good effort - made all the difference in reserve.
Wolves
Mike**** great effort and on the pace always in the hunt.
Ronnie* whether his crash affected him I am not sure, but he was lucky in my opinion to be given his full quota of 4 rides.
Adam*** 2 extra stars for a great ride in the 12th - otherwise very ordinary.
Johno* didn’t deserve a ride in heat 14. Sorry but I’m less and less convinced of his chances to stay in the side.
Freddie ****. Worth more than his points tally and gave plenty of effort - all you can expect in a Wolves race jacket.
Magnus *** a great ride in heat 8, but a little up and down.
Krzys*** on the pace and did all that could be asked - worth more rides than some of his team mates
Five of the Wolves riders rode with respect last night - step forward MIKE,FRED,ADAM,MAGNUS and KRZYS. Thank you.
Man of the Match - Mikael Max.
All in all a pretty decent showing for the wolves and a thoroughly enjoyable trip – I’d definitely go again. Thanks of course to Lawt for the lift and hospitality, Advisor (great chat and many stories- plus of course now officially my big sister!!!) and MM2 for being his usual bubbly self.
You’re all total gems and proud to be fellow Wolves as always.
