6. Ronnie Correy 1* 2 0 1* = 4 +2
7. George Stancl 2 1* 1* 1 = 5 + 2
A decent sized crowd, but not quite as large as the last Ipswich v. Wolves match.
Heat 1: Andersen, Miskowiak, Steady, Magnus 5-1, 60.3
Ipswich have 1 and 3 and their riders streak from the start. Steady briefly threatens down the back straight on lap1.
Heat 2: Puszakowski, George, Ronnie, Armstrong 3-3, 8-4, 61.2
I can see why Lawt didn’t want to do the report with all these Polish names !!
Puszakowski gates and flies away. George passes Ronnie down the back straight of lap 1 and threatens for a lap. Armstrong way last as expected.
Heat 3: Freddie, Jansson, Johnno, Pepe 2-4, 10-8, 60.9
At the first time of asking Pepe is moving and the referee calls all 4 back for a re – run.
In the re – run Freddie blasts around the fast gating Jansson down the back straight of lap 1. Johnno is last from the start, but passes Pepe down the inside on the back straight of lap 1. Pepe is all over Johnno for 2 laps before dropping back.
Heat 4: Louis, David, George, Armstrong 3-3, 13-11, 60.3
The Ipswich pair lead from the gate. David goes inside Armstrong down the back straight of lap 1, and George repeats the move down the home straight of lap 1. No catching Louis.
Heat 5: Steady, Pepe, Jansson, Magnus 3-3, 16-14, 61.2
Even start. Steady goes outside Pepe down the back straight of lap 1 with an excellent move. Magnus last throughout.
Heat 6: Andersen, Ronnie, David, Miskowiak 3-3, 19-17, 60.6
Another even start. Andersen pulls clear. Ronnie passes David down the back straight of lap 1. Miskowiak is all over David but can’t get past.
Heat 7: Louis, Freddie, Johnno, Puszakowski F,Ex 3-3, 22-20, 60.3
Another even start. Puszakowski pulls clear but leaves a big gap on the inside which Freddie accepts along the back straight of lap1. As they enter the 3rd bend Puszakowski has too much speed and falls on his own, being excluded as the cause of the stoppage – correct call by the referee.
In the re – run Louis gates and although Freddie is all over him he can’t quite find a way pass. Johnno gives everyone a start again and is way at the back.
Heat 8: Miskowiak, Magnus, George, Puszakowski (in for Armstrong) 3-3, 25-23, 61.2
Even gate, Miskowiak pulls clear. Magnus threatens for 2 laps before dropping back. George easy 3rd.
Heat 9: David, Pepe, Jansson, Ronnie 3-3, 28-26, 61.2
From the gate.
Heat 10: Miskowiak, Andersen, Freddie, Johnno 5-1, 33-27, 61.7
The Ipswich pair lead from the start. Freddie pushes hard, and is level with Andersen down the back straight of lap 3 but just can’t get in front by the bend. Excellent team ride by the Witches pair, but Freddie gets full marks for effort.
Heat 11: Louis, Steady, Magnus, Armstrong (in for Puszakowski) 3-3, 36-30, 61.4
Louis gates but Steady passes him down the back straight of lap 1. Louis pulls level down the inside on the back straight of lap 3, but Steady blocks him off as they enter the bend. However, Louis repeats the move down the back straight of lap 4 and this time just gets in front by the bend to pass Steady. Fine effort by Steady though. Magnus easy 3rd.
Heat 12: Puszakowski (in for Armstrong), Johnno, Ronnie, Pepe (ef) 3-3, 39-33, 61.3
The Ipswich pair gate. Johnno pushes Pepe, who seems very slow, for 2 laps before falling back. Pepe has engine failure on the last bend when 2nd to gift Johnno and Ronnie a 3 – 3 they didn’t deserve. Ronnie a poor last until Pepe’s misfortune.
Heat 13: Louis, Andersen, Howe, Steady (ef) 5-1, 44-34, 60.9
The Ipswich pair gate and are gone. Steady suffers a puncture after 1 lap. David way at the back.
Heat14: Puszakowski, Freddie (TR), George, Jansson 3-5, 47-39, 61.7
Freddie wears the black and white helmet colour. Puszakowski makes another jet propelled start and is gone. George baulks Freddie for 2 laps – does he understand the tactical ride rule? – Freddie makes up ground over the last 2 laps but Puszakowski had too much of a start. Jansson last throughout.
Heat 15: Freddie, Andersen, Louis, Howe 3-3, 50-42, 61.5
At the first time of asking, Andersen, Louis and Freddie all reach the first bend in a line. Something has to give and Freddie falls into the air fence. He is soon up and OK. All four are called back for the re –run – again the correct call.
At the second time of asking, Freddie gates and streaks away to ruin the maximum hopes of the 2 Witches. Andersen pushes hard for 3 laps but can’t find a way past.
Weather: **** - warm but a bit misty in the wilds of Foxhall
Track: *** not quite as slick as for the last match - a little passing despite most of it being on the first lap.
Attendance **** not a poor crowd, but not as many as for the A match
Wolves performance *** kept the score close but never seriously threatened a win
Referee – Mick Bates **** until Heat 13 and then an un named trainee for the last 3 – both got the important decisions correct
Man of the Match – No contest – FREDDIE LINDGREN
RIDER RATINGS:
STEADY **** did far more from the number one spot than anyone could have fairly expected.
MAGNUS ** improved towards the end but looks to be struggling for confidence
JOHNN0 * lucky to get that – couldn’t gate, and slow. A shadow of his performance in the A match
FREDDIE ***** his last ride took his stars for the night from 4 to 5. Another excellent performance from the spot in the team where he should have been all year
DAVID *** an improvement on his A match performance – but then again it wasn’t difficult to improve on 1 point from 4 rides!! Still seems to lack confidence away from home
RONNIE ** looked slow again
GEORGE *** did all that could be expected of him.
So at least the bonus point cam our way – but Freddie and Steady apart everyone appeared to be merely going through the motions.
