Fair sized crowd, but seemed down on our previous visits.
This could be the shortest report on record due to the Slick Track !!
Heat 1: Davidsson(R/R), Adams, Peter, Magnus 5-1, 65.46
Swindon won the toss and took 1+3. Adams clearly moves at the start but the race is allowed to continue. The Swindon pair gate fastest and pull away. The Wolves pair can’t make up any ground.
Heat 2: Korneliussen, Krys, Ronnie, Ostergaard 3-3, 8-4, 66.84
Korneliussen moves this time, and is rewarded for his cheating by being able to pull clear. Again the race is not called back. Ronnie is all over the track on what appears to be borrowed machinery after his split from Glyn Taylor but manages to hang onto 3rd. No danger of any passing again though.
Heat 3: Ljung, Davidsson, Freddie, Johnno 5-1, 13-5, 67.11
Wolves again asleep at the gate. The Swindon pair pull clear and ride away for a 5-1.Freddie is half a straight behind at the end with Johnno another half straight behind him.
Heat 4: Richardson, David, Ostergaard, Krys 4-2, 17-7, 66.58
At last an even start, but again the Swindon pair pull clear into the first bend. David manages to pass Ostergaard around the first 2 bends. Krys falls on the second bend of the first lap when last. Again the entertainment is over for the race.
Heat 5: Davidsson, Peter (TR), Magnus, Ljung, 3-5, 20-12, 65.55
Peter is nominated as a TR. After what appears to be a perfectly good start all four are called back by the referee for an unsatisfactory start
In the re run Davidsson – where has he found this form from? – makes another fast start and pulls clear. Peter is in second and Magnus and Ljung have a battle down the back straight of lap 1 for third place. Magnus pulls clear into bend 3. Ljung falls when last and not under pressure on the first bend of lap2. He remounts to finish last. Davidsson is an easy winner in a very fast time.
Heat 6: Howe, Adams, Ronnie, Ostergaard, Korneliussen (R/R) Ex Tapes, 2-4, 22-16, 65.68
The tapes seem to be held for a long time and Korneliussen is tempted into them. Ostergaard replaces him in the rerun, which sees a rare home defeat for Adams. David rides an excellent line to thwart all of Adams moves, but again there is no passing after the first bend.
Heat 7: Korneliussen, Richardson, Krys, Johnno, Freddie Ex Tapes, 5-1, 27-17, 66.71
Again the tapes are held for a long time and this time Freddie is suckered into them. He is replaced by Krys. An even start in the re run, but the Swindon pair pull clear into the first bend. Krys threatens briefly along the back straight of lap 1 but soon falls back. Johnno is way last. We seem to be on the way to losing the bonus point.
Heat 8: Magnus, Ronnie (in for Krys), Korneliussen (in for Ostergaard), Ljung F/EX ,1-5, 28-22, 67.55.
Magnus leads from the gate, with Ronnie 3rd, but Ronnie is soon passed by Korneliussen. Ljung falls on the 1st bend of lap 2 with the race being stopped, when 2nd. We are told later that his throttle jammed open.
In the rerun , Magnus again leads into the first bend and pulls clear. Ronnie passes Korneliussen on the inside out of bend 2 lap 1, and the Wolves pair pull clear.
Heat 9: Ljung, Davidsson, Howe, Krys (in for Ronnie), 5-1, 33-23, 67.80
What a topsy turvy match this is proving to be. An even start, but again the Swindon pair pull clear into bend 1. David is last, but passé Krys on the back straight of lap2. He makes up some ground on the Swindon duo, but they have too much of a start.
Heat 10: Adams, Freddie, Johnno, Richardson(R/R) 3-3, 36-26, 66.27
Richardson is very slow away from the tapes. Adams has gone and pulls clear. Richardson presses Johnno for a time on the 2nd lap but can’t find a way past.
Heat 11: Peter, Richardson, Magnus, Korneliussen, 2-4, 38-30, 66.71
The Wolves pair lead from the start, and Magnus rides an excellent first bend to pin Richardson to the white line. Richardson forces his way past Magnus on the back straight of lap 1, but Peter has got enough of a start to hold on for the win.
Heat 12: Ljung, Johnno, Ostergaard, Ronnie, 4-2, 42-32, 68.14
Ljung leads form the start with Johnno and Ronnie second and third. Ostergaard slips under Ronnie out of the second bend of lap 1.Ljung almost falls on bend 4 of lap 1 after rearing but Johnno is not close enough to capitalise. Johnno pushes Ljung on the third lap for the lead before falling back .
Heat 13: Richardson, Adams, Howe, Peter, 5-1, 47-33, 66.49
Even start, but Peter is pinned on the line by Adams, and Richardson swoops around the outside of bends 1 and 2. David passes Peter on the first lap but can make no impression.
Heat14: Davidsson, Freddie(TR), Korneliussen, Krys, 4-4, 51-37, 66.93
Freddie wears the black and white helmet colour. Davidssson makes another jet propelled start, with Korneliussen second. Freddie forces his way past Korneliussen along the back straight of lap 1, but Davidsson has too much of a start. At least the bonus point is assured.
Heat 15: Adams, Freddie, Howe, Richardson ef, 3-3, 54-40, 66.58.
Swindon win the toss and choose gates 1 and 3. Richardson is left at the start. Adams is gone, but Freddie does get close for a time on lap 2. Richardson has engine failure when last on bend 2 of lap 3.
Weather: **** - warm and dry – quite good for September.
Track: * Looked well prepared on arrival, but proved to be ultra slick with hardly any passing.
Entertainment * See Track comments.
Attendance ** not as good as for the league matches – good Wolves turnout.
Wolves performance ** very topsy turvy, the bonus point was gone at one stage, but we managed to claw it back.
Referee – David Robinson (Trainee) under the supervision of Dale Entwistle * very inconsistent on the starts, let Swindon riders get away with rolling at the start in each of the first 3 heats, called heat 5 back for no reason – needs more training for sure.
Man of the Match – A very difficult decision – no Wolves rider was outstanding. In the end I give it to MAGNUS KARLSSON – for his excellent ride in heat 8 and his move in heat 11 when he pinned Richardson down to let Peter get away.
RIDER RATINGS:
PETER ** newspaper reports said he was struggling for fitness and this appeared to be the case.
MAGNUS **** good rides in heat 8 and 11 – just shaved Man of the Match
JOHNN0 * Another performance to forget on yet another of his former tracks
FREDDIE *** strangely subdued compared to his last few meetings – gating let him down on an ultra slick track
DAVID *** An up and down performance – an excellent defeat of Adams mixed in with some mediocre rides.
RONNIE ** struggled a bit on what looked to be borrowed machinery
KRZYSZTOF * struggled on a track that seemed made for his fast gating ability.
We at least managed to salvage the bonus from what proved to be a very boring match.
