Credit David Howe, looks the best rider on show. He made the track look easy in heat 5.

Ht6.Crump gates and pulls away - but very spread out. Ht7.great gate from the wolves boys - Krzys blast round the outside whilst freddie looks much better in this. Screen puts up a slight challenge for 2 laps but neither him nor lyons and smithy as well look like racing tonight. im glad to say!!! Ht8.steady- great gate to dominate the first bends. ronnie settles into 2nd but is struggling with the track. smithy tries to put james under a challenge but it fails to materialise. ht9.david traps on crump but crump gives david a little nudge and david falls. its all 4 back! in the re-run crumpy traps and david cuts back but cant get near him. another spaced out heat. Ht10.It looks like the aces have it! screen gates but ronnie traps on stead and clamps him to the line. Ronnie gets into trouble on the 4th bend and stead is thru. he gets close to charlie but not quite close enough. Ht11.Stead in again for smith.super gate for stead which stuns freddie - bjerre gets out of sorts on the first corner and is out of it. krzys falls on the 4th bend 2nd lap so its 3 for the re-run. DRASTIC! same positions again from the gate with freddie pushing stead more with each lap. freddie goes for the blast on the 3rd bend last lap but falls and gifts a maximum to the aces! Ht12.stead in again for harrison - i hope hes tired!!! the aces gate whilst steady and screen both look out of control. Krzys falls on the 4th bend again - however its awarded with Peter Adams very unhappy as the race is awarded. Ht13. OH DEAR OH DEAR - its all gone wrong! the aces pair gate but at least freddie puts bjerre under pressure. charlie is just NOT the man to guest for a number one. Ht14.shame for david - gates well but has engine problems. stead gets yet another win and very spaced out heat. Ht15.johno and fred against bjerre and crump. Crump gates but freddie comes round down the back straight into 2nd and looks fast enough to pass crump. Freddie ggets out of shape and is passed by bjerre down the back straight on the 2nd lap and its all over. An 8 point lead at the halfway stage to lose by 12 in the end.its gotta be all over isnt it?

ok well its all over - a bigger defeat than i expected but how could we have lost this much when we were cruising at the halfway stage? i think the answer is SIMON STEAD really. Peter Adams seems optimistic about our play off hopes - really? id say game over now. Gjedde as expected was no match for a number one but good to see David fired up. well goodnite all.

Half (all right, three-sevenths before any pedant decides to have a go) of the Belle Vue team psyched themselves completely out of this match. Track conditions didn't seem all that bad; I'd bet each and every one of these riders has raced in much worse. Crump did his "ginger whinger" tag proud by moaning a lot every time a Sky mic was put in front of him, but he looked a class above on the track. He had good support from Bjerre, Screen and Stead, all of whom showed the track was no trouble at all when attacked in the right way.
Perhaps conditions were a leveller in the first few heats, but I dread to think how it might have been if conditions had been fine, or if all seven of the Aces had tried.
I expected to lose by about 12, but, unlike at Coventry, it would be wrong to say there was a lack of effort from the Wolves. It's just that we were second best when it mattered.

Does anyone know why, when David Howe has been one of the top scorers he hasn't been put in heat 15 ?
