2. Krzysztof Pecyna X X 0 E 0
3. Magnus Karlsson 0 1 0 3 4
4. Fredrik Lindgren 2 3 3 3 1 12
5. Billy Hamill 3 3 2 0 8
6. William Lawson 0 0 1 0 1 2
7. Christian Hefenbrock 1 0 1 0 2
It’s a challenge meeting with the purpose of shaking down the machinery and riders and getting in some track time. As such the result is not as important as the experience gained and the knowledge acquired.
Heat details:
1. Andersen, PK, Bajerski, Lawson (Pecyna exc) 4-2
Krys’ bike packs in and he is excluded under two minute rule. First attempt to start sees Andersen turn left and shove PK onto the grass before the first turn. Unsatisfactory! Bajerski is then give ten minutes plus to work on his bike – who knows why! In the race Andersen gates and leads all race – PK is close but can’t find any grip to make a pass. Lap 4 – Bajerski slows and William closes in but too late.
2. Ostergaard, Hall, Hefenbrock, Lawson 5-1 9-3
Easy win for P’boro from the tapes. A forty yard gap after 4 laps. William has engine problems on lap 3 whilst in third place.
3. Jensen, Lindgren, Iversen, M Karlsson 4-2 13-5
Freddie Lindgren made a great start and led for three and three quarter laps but was slowing slightly on the last lap and JBJ passed him on the inside of the last bend to take the win. Exciting race. Magnus was a long way back in fourth.
4. Hamill, Sullivan, Ostergaard, Hefenbrock - 3-3 16-8
Excellent win from Billy who didn’t roll at the start. Definitely not! He rode an extremely wide line all through the race. Christian not in contention but quicker than his first ride.
5. Iversen, Jensen, PK, Pecyna ex 2mins (not replaced) 5-1 21-9
KP had plenty of time to check the bike but was again excluded for failing to meet the two minutes! How crap is that? He wasn’t replaced, presumably because he would not then have had three rides by the end of his programmed excursions. From the gate maximum for P’boro with PK about four bike lengths behind them at the end although he had made a couple of challenges.
6. Hamill, Bajerski, Lawson, Andersen (ef) - 3-3 23-13
Andersen lays it over Billy in turn 1 but then drops a chain (I think) while leading lap 1 and allows Billy through for the easy win. William challenges Bajerski in a promising show of determination finishing just 5 yards behind him.
7. Lindgren, Sullivan, M Karlsson, Hall 2-4 25-17
Sullivan gates but Fred drives hard round the boards and emerges onto the back straight in the lead and proceeds to wave goodbye to Ryan. Magnus rides intelligently to keep Hall behind him.
8. Ostergaard, Bajerski, Hefenbrock, Pecyna - 5-1 30-18
Incredibly easy maximum for them. Krys’ bike sounds about as powerful as a 50cc moped.
9. Jensen, Hamill, Iversen, Lawson 4-2 34-20
Great race! Billy Hamill led for two laps then he and JBJ passed and repassed for a lap and a half before Jesper clinched the win in the fastest time so far.
10. Lindgren, Andersen, Bajerski, M Karlsson 3-3 37-23
Magnus and Freddie gated well for a 5-1 start but Andersen swept straight across Magnus’ line and nearly wiped him out and certainly made him shut off which allowed Bajerski through. Fred went on to win convincingly and Magnus tried his best to come back at Bajerski without success.
11. PK (TR), Sullivan, Hall, Pecyna (ef!) 3-6 40-29
The ‘Animal’ is back. PK (on a tactical ride) missed the gate a bit but cut inside Sullivan as he left the second bend for a great, powerful pass to lead the race. Pecyna’s bike packed up again on the first lap! Hero to zero for him in 24 hours. He had the fastest machine on display from either team at Poole – and a complete bag of nails tonight. What’s going on?
12. M Karlsson, Ostergaard, Lawson, Jensen (EF) 2-4 42-33
Heat 12 is going to be Magnus’ race this season. He won it last night and now he does it again in style. JBJ’s machine failed from second place allowing William a guaranteed point as he seriously challenged Ostergaard before his own machine failed and he coasted home for that one point.
13. Andersen, PK, Sullivan, Hamill (on TR) 4-2 46-35
Andersen, out of control, once again swept across all three riders on the first turn and made them all shut off then powered off to win the race with PK trying to catch him. Billy, on a tactical ride, lined up Sullivan and went to pass only for Sullivan to pull the same stunt as his captain and leave Billy stranded with double nothing!
14. Lindgren, Iversen, Hall, Hefenbrock 3-3 49-38
Freddie and Christian gated but got swallowed up by the P’boro pair in turn one, then Freddie made an ultra brave move and passed everyone on the outside (and I mean OUTSIDE) of the second bend to lead, and win the race. Chris got blocked in those first two turns and could not recover.
15. PK, Sullivan, Lindgren, Jensen (ef) 2-4 51-42
This was a great race from PK and Sullivan with PK showing that he still knows the quick way around the track – and how to watch his back. Freddie was close behind the pair of them and JBJ’s machine expired during the race.
Comment:
The first thing to say was that considering we are suffering from Global warming – it was bloody cold, even in the grandstand.
The team performance was much more encouraging than the previous evening at Poole with sharper gating and more aggression in the first two turns although there is still room for more advances. The reserves both picked up their game and had some good races and Magnus was very unlucky not to have scored more points after getting shafted in heat 10. Krys Pecyna had a nightmare with his machine but it seems strange that he either did not have a serviceable second bike or that there was not an opportunity to borrow a machine. For him it was a complete waste of time and effort because he gained no points and no track or race experience. Freddie, Billy and PK all had some great races and seemed much more switched on.
Weather: So cold I didn’t notice!
Track: Smooth and well prepared but quite slick towards the inside.
Attendance: The weather kept many folks at home. Three quarters of a grandstand full and seven people on the back straight!
Wolves Performance: Improving but with room for further work. A nine point difference is not too bad especially when the number two didn’t contribute a point. Gating still requires practice and observance of the two minute situation is critical. Across the last two meetings we have had four time exclusions in six consecutive heats!
Entertainment: Several very good races and I did find it entertaining. Would have liked to see more dirt.
Referee: Basically OK but why did he give Bajerski extra time in heat 1? Mind you – he didn’t notice Billy’s start in heat 4 so I can’t really complain.
Man of the Match: No doubt – Fredrik Lindgren – for effort and consistency.
Rider Ratings: (now on a scale of ten with 6 being the average expectation)
Peter Karlsson: 8 Two wins from five rides away from home is good but then this is still a bit like home to PK. Hope I haven’t been too generous with 8 points in the new system.
Krzysztof Pecyna: 3 Hard to give a proper rating when he didn’t ride so I based it on inability to start/complete races as well!
Magnus Karlsson: 6 Rode better than his score suggests but still just about at the level I expected. I know he can and will do better.
Fredrik Lindgren: 9 Excellent night’s work. Keep it up Freddie.
Billy Hamill: 6 An average score seems a bit harsh but he squandered a tactical ride at an important time.
Christian Hefenbrock: 4 It will take time for him to learn the tracks but he didn’t beat an opposition rider.
William Lawson: 5 Also didn’t beat the opposition but was very close on occasions.

Lawt
