IPSWICH VS WOLVES VS EASTBOURNE, CRAVEN SHIELD 2ND LEG, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2006
Ipswich Evening Star Witches 46 (83)
Scott Nicholls (G) – 3, 3, 3, 2 = 11
Kim Jansson - 0, 0, 0 = 0
Robert Miskowiak – 0, 3, 2*, 3 = 8+1
Adam Skornicki – 3, 1, 3, 2* = 9+1
Mark Loram – 3, 3, 2*, 3 = 11+1
Danny King – 1, 2*, 3, 1*, 0 = 7+2
Parry’s International Wolves 23 (56)
Henning Bager (G) – 1*, 1, 2, 0 = 4+1
Ronnie Correy – 2, 0, 0, 1 = 3
Billy Hamill – 2, 1, 0, Ret = 3
Christian Hefenbrock – 0, 0, 1, 2 = 3
Fredrik Lindgren – 2, 3, 2, Ex = 7
Chris Kerr – 0, 0, 1*, 2 = 3+1
Eastbourne Eagles 38 (76)
Adam Shields – 2, 2, 3, 3 = 10
Dean Barker – 1*, 1*, 1, 1 = 4+2
Nicki Pedersen – 3, 2, 3, 2 = 10
Lewis Bridger – 1, Ret, Ex, 1* = 2+1
David Norris – 2*, 2, 1, 3 = 8+1
Edward Kennett – 3, 1*, 0, 0 = 4+1
There were 9 Wolves fans spotted at Ipswich for this “gripping” competition. We had a very good meal at the truck stop. It was quite chilly on the third bend so the Fredrik Lindgren flag was used as a blanket as well as a flag!! There was no toss as gate position were already set and had been renamed a, b, c and d. Ooh how thrilling!
Heat 1: Scott Nicholls, Ronnie Correy, Henning Bager, Kim Jansson, 59.0, I=3 W=3 E=0
Nicholls gated and Correy went round the outside and was second coming out of the second bend. Bager was third and it stayed like that until the end. We’re not losing on the night!! Mini-celebration dance!!
Heat 2: Nicki Pedersen, Billy Hamill, Lewis Bridger, Christian Hefenbrock, (Fell, Rem) 59.7, I=0 W=2 E=4, (I=3 W=5 E=4)
Pedersen gated and led all the way. The Wolves were 2nd and 3rd out of bend 2 but Christian went far too wide going round the 4th bend when 3rd and collided with the air fence. He re-mounted but couldn’t catch Bridger. We’re still not losing on the night. Ok technically we’ve had more rides than everyone else but I’m clutching at straws here…
Heat 3: Adam Skornicki, Adam Shields, Dean Barker, Robert Miskowiak, 60.6, I=3 W=0 E=3 (I=6 W=5 E=7)
Adam Shields variety gated but Adam Skornicki variety found drive on the outside of turn 2 and went round him to take the win. (You could hear Kate cheering from Wolverhampton.) Miskowiak and Barker had a battle but Barker got the “consolation point” to use a Tony Millard expression.
Heat 4: Mark Loram, Fredrik Lindgren, Danny King, Chris Kerr, 60.1, I=4 W=2 E=0 (I=10 W=7 E=7)
Ipswich gated but Fredrik passed King on the inside of the second bend. Chris Kerr went very wide round the outside and looked really impressive but then the move came to nothing and he was last.
Heat 5: Edward Kennett, David Norris, Henning Bager, Ronnie Correy, 60.9, I=0, W=1 E=5 (I=10 W=8 E=12)
Ronnie lifted at the start and was nowhere throughout the race (well he was somewhere but not in a point scoring position) Edward Kennett went round Bager, who had gated, on the second bend and then David Norris got through on the third bend to secure an Eagles’ 5-1. This all happened on the first lap. To be honest, I wasn’t really watching. I was moaning about how cold it was!
Heat 6: Scott Nicholls, Adam Shields, Dean Barker, Kim Jansson, 59.9, I=3 W=0 E=3 (I=13 W=8 E=15)
A really good race between Nicholls and Shields. They were next to each other for two laps before Nicholls rode his front wheel over the white line and just got an inside run down the home straight.
Heat 7: Mark Loram, Danny King, Billy Hamill, Christian Hefenbrock, 60.7, I=5 W=1 E=0 (I=18 W=9 E=15)
When Danny King beats one of your heatleaders, you know you’re in trouble. Ipswich gated. Nuff said about that really. My mouse tried to make a break for it before this heat. It was going faster than Billy Hamill – It’s probably younger too. Sign it up – It’s been named Mickey!!
Heat 8: Fredrik Lindgren, David Norris, Edward Kennett, Chris Kerr, 60.8, I=0 W=3 E=3 (I=18 W=12 E=18)
A heat win!! Provided by the best and the youngest member of our team on the night (Me? Biased? Never!) Fredrik gated and held off Doris for 4 laps despite repetitive challenges from the Eagle. Oh and it wasn’t only cold, it started spitting!! The flag makes a good tent after being waved madly, accompanied by cheers, at the Sugababe-Supported Swede.
Heat 9: Robert Miskowiak, Nicki Pedersen, Adam Skornicki, Lewis Bridger (Ret), 60.5, I=4 W=0 E=2 (I=22 W=12 E=20)
Miskowiak – Or Bob as he shall now be referred to – shot out the start and Pedersen couldn’t catch him. Bridger’s bike stopped about 5 steps from the start. It was drizzling by this time so, as we didn’t have anyone in this race, I was probably texting.
Heat 10: Scott Nicholls, Fredrik Lindgren, Chris Kerr, Kim Jansson, (F, Exc) (Awarded) I=3 W=3 E=0 (I=25 W=15 E=20)
Ipswich gated but Kim Jansson went wider and wider until eventually on the 4th lap, he hit the air fence. Fredrik couldn’t avoid him even though he shut off pretty quickly and Chris Kerr also fell. Race awarded. All riders walked back to the pits. Kim Jansson is now permanently on my list, I think it makes him feel special….
Heat 11: Adam Shields, Henning Bager, Dean Barker, Ronnie Correy, 61.5, I=0 W=2 E=4 (I=25 W=17 E=24)
Adam Shields gated. Henning “Danish Bagel” Bager attempted a couple of moves to pass Shields but dropped back into 2nd place. Ronnie was third on the first lap but Barker got through. It started spitting again – I’m really glad that I made the journey!
Heat 12: Danny King, Mark Loram, David Norris, Edward Kennett, 61.4, I=5 W=0 E=1 (I=30 W=17 E=25)
Mark Loram gated but when he saw King coming, dropped back and shepherded him home for the 5-1. I don’t remember this race happening. It’s just a rainy, cold puddle in my mind.
Heat 13: Adam Skornicki, Bob Miskowiak, Christian Hefenbrock, Billy Hamill, 61.4, I=5 W=1 E=0 (I=35 W=18 E=25)
Ipswich from the gate (Noticing a pattern?) Billy was third and tried the wide line but drifted further and further back. I can’t think of anything slower than him but he said in the E&S that, that engine was his best engine. No wonder we aren’t in the Play-offs!!!
Heat 14: Nicki Pedersen, Chris Kerr, Lewis Bridger, (F, exc) Fredrik Lindgren, (F, exc) 61.9, I=0 W=2 E=3 (I=35 W=20 E=28)
Fredrik fell on the first bend and it should’ve been all 4 back (Not just my opinion – another Wolf with a clearer view agreed as Pedersen and Lindgren touched shoulders. Lindgren excluded (Silly Woman Referee!) In the re-run Bridger fell and was excluded after pulling ahead of Kerr after a battle between the two. Pedersen vs. Kerr in the re-re-run. Pedersen pulled clear and Kerr followed home.
Heat 15: David Norris, Scott Nicholls, Danny King, Edward Kennett, 61.0, I=3 W=0 E=3 (I=38 W=20 E=31)
Danny King replaced Kim Jansson. Norris gated and Nicholls tried everything to get passed. King had a separate race with Kennett further back. All Wolves fans, including me, had lost interest ages ago.
Heat 16: Bob Miskowiak, Adam Skornicki, Ronnie Correy, Henning Bager, 61.4, I=5 W=1 E=0 (I=43 W=21 E=31)
Ipswich gated and cleared off again…. there’s nothing else to say – go and read about the next heat! (*Hums Batman theme tune*)
Heat 17: Adam Shields, Christian Hefenbrock, Dean Barker, Billy Hamill, (ret) 61.9, I=0 W=2 E=4 (I=43 W=23 E=35)
Wolves gated!! (Hoorah!) Billy then went from first to last and pulled up on lap 2. Christian and Adam (Australian Variety) had an elbow battle on the backstraight going into turns 3 and 4 with Shields coming out the clear winner.
Heat 18: Mark Loram, Nicki Pedersen, Lewis Bridger, Danny King, 61.3, I=3 W=0 E=3 (I=46 W=23 E=38)
Very close first turn but Loram picked up drive and passed both Eastbourne riders to win. I was halfway to the car park by this stage…
I’m not doing a summary – it’s too miserable. I can sing the batman theme tune again if you’d like though!!!
Weather: Cold, Wet, Miserable
Track: “Gaters’ Paradise” but more dirt than usual
Attendance: For Wolves? 9 people approx
Wolves Performance: Well only one really perfomed and the ref was against him!
Entertainment: Not very – I looked entertaining with me flag over my head!!
Referee: Barbara Horley – Got the Fredrik exclusion wrong. Not much else wrong though.
Man of the Match: Fredrik Lindgren – Who else? (It is me deciding but for once you’ll probably agree!)
Rider Ratings: (now on a scale of ten with 6 being the average expectation)
Henning Bager: 6 Tried more than others
Ronnie Correy: 4 Not one of his best nights
Billy Hamill: 1 Slow, Off the Pace, Let us down as a heatleader
Christian Hefenbrock: 5 Better showing than recently
Fredrik Lindgren: 8 The best wolf!!
Chris Kerr: 5 Better than I expected though some points were gifted
