Now heres an interesting fact............................... St. Frideswide According to legend, St. Frideswide was born in around 650, daughter of Mercian King Didan, and was brought up to holiness by Algiva. When proffered (and refusing) the hand of King Algar (also a Mercian) she fled her homeland to settle in Oxford and there she built an abbey (where Christ Church stands today) - reportedly to preserve her virginity. (I would have thought it would have been easier to say she had a headache than to go to all that trouble)

Mythos is an Athenian lager with just a hint of flavour.
A fairly subtle hint. When in Greece it's that or Amstel.
Or get on a plane to Bruges!

Keep 'em coming Jasper.......

Best thing to come out of Oxford is Chief Inspector Morse, who I shall be watching via a DVD in the company of a bottle of Merlot. WOW!!!!! We agree on something - I love Morse ;D

For me, though, the best thing to come out of Oxford is that sadly underrated and now defunct band, the Candyskins. Deserved as much acclaim, if not more, as those other Oxford bands, Radiohead and Supergrass.

And preserve her it did, for when King Algar followed her there and attempted to take both her and the abbey by force he was struck blind. Only St. Frideswide's later forgiveness restoring his lost vision. Now let that be a lesson to you men and I thought it was something else that sent you blind ;D

Not quite as popular with the tourists I believe, although to be fair any cold lager when it is 90 degrees will do. Do we want to even mention retsina?

Good grief! What has happened to Pietraszko? He was great on ice at Telford and as such got a place in my Polish Select Fantasy Team - typical!

Do we want to even mention retsina? What have eyes got to do with it?? They cross when you drink too much of it ;D Drink too much of this stuff (ie 2 glasses) and your eyes fall out. Now let that be a warning to our younger readers. I am enjoying this. We look like we can win tonight and the thought of a few hundred Coventry conspiracy theorists venting their spleen on the BSF. Happy days.
