I Can't wait to hear CVS's excusses for the guest, he knew PK was'nt sure about riding so he should of sorted something Days ago!!! No offence to Bager but he aint a heatleader and NOT a good enough guest for a CLASS rider. WHY does it always happen to us?? i feel very sorry for anyone who went Sorry for the rant folks

Frankly, we were fulfilling a fairly meaningless fixture. Bager was available and rode for us. I would like to think someone else would if we had been 10 points up.

I think the choice of guest is a reflection on the importance of the Craven Shield rather than CVS' ability to choose guests. He can't force riders to ride! Most of them are winding down after a long season of flying here, there and everywhere. They are simply not interested in taking on another meeting for someone else's team at this stage. The Craven Shield format is expensive to stage (18 riders to pay rather than 14) and simply doesn't appeal to the public. Very poorly planned.
Personally I like the playoffs (I accept a lot of people don't), but one of the disadvantages is that for the teams who don't make it, their season falls flat. Maybe it's just time to accept it, stage a challenge match, Olympique and Under 18 meeting and shut up shop early?

Couldn't agree more, Mark. This week has shown the best and worst of British speedway. On Monday we had two playoffs live on TV. Big excitement, fairly close and in front of big crowds. Then we had the Craven Shield and the farcical end of the Cup SF at Poole. It's EL and playoffs. Everything else is pizza. Of course, we could follow the PL example and have Quarter Finals in the playoffs. Then the remaining three teams (9th, 10th and 11th) could have a triangular competition. Don't call it the Craven Shield; call it something appropriate like the Wooden SPOON Trophy. Or the spoonland Heath Memorial.

It also helped him warm up for the following night's Wooden Spoon Trophy fixture, in which he got 16+5 = paid 21 point maximum, from reserve v. Oxford!!!!
