Meeting that on a quick glance looks closer than it was, the result was never in doubt but as Wolverhampton contrived to ship race points on the night I can't help think they have thrown away a league bonus point.
Arena made a poor decision covering Joonas Kylmakorpi's absence with R/R that mustered a meager 5+1, I'm sure from 4 rides the Finn would have scored 8-9.
The meeting wasn't as entertaining as the previous week at Monmor and got track got dusty towards the end, but still had it's moments. The Wolves rides blasted away for a tapes to flag 5-1 in heat 1, the Hammer's riders battling for the consolation saw Hurry send Lanham far wider than he wanted to be entering turns 3 & 4, the Arena stalwart won't thank his captain I'm sure as he struggled to stay on his bike.
Heat 2 was better, Wilkinson gated to take an impressive win, he'll be happy with a swashbuckling debut in Wolves colors. Hefenbrock went from 4th to 2nd having gated poorly on the exit to turn 2. Bager & Pjiper battled for the solitary point, the Dane overtaking the Dutch man on the inside of turn 4, alp 1, Pjiper coming back on the same bend, same place two laps later.
Heat 3 saw Hamill sneak underneath Kasprzak exiting turn two, Lanham at the back almost caught Magnus Karlsson on the line using the wider line well, and this time through choice.
Impressive win for Pjiper in heat 4 over Shields.
Magnus Karlsson had his usual single 'good ride' in heat 5, helped all the way by Hamill who packed in for second. Following another heat advantage from the Howe/Karlsson duo, Wolves were 25-11 up. On a tactical ride Kasprzak won over the pedestrian gating Lindgren in heat 7 with Lanham nipping up the inside of the wide riding Wilkinson entering turn 1, lap 3. But Wolves fought back Howe & Pjiper combining for a 5-1 in heat 8 as Hurry fell chasing on the wide line, turn 4, lap 3.
Hamill's machine slowed and finally blew up having, as the American initially looking quicker as he chased Shields in heat 9. Hurry introduced Wilkinson to the 1st turn air fence in heat 11 that was rerun, the Wolves debuting reserve dusted himself up and chased the Hammers behind Lindgren only to again hit the deck trying to go a little too wide on turn 4. On his second machine the former World Champion looked well off the pace in heat 12.
Lindgren made an awful second bend in heat 13, chased Bager down & overtook the Dane down the home straight as the riders saw the yellow & black flag, only to carry too much speed into turn 2 and drift wide allowing Bager back underneath him exiting the seond bend.,
Hefenbrock & Lanham scored a 5-1 over a slow gating Pjiper & a hopelessly slow Magnus Karlsson in heat 14, the German on his return to Monmore overtaking Karlsson on turn 3, lap 1.
Kasprzak ruined any chances of PK maximum in the final heat to most likely secure the bonus point for the Lakeside team.
Rider of the Night: David Howe, just over Adam Shields who doesn't usually score as well as he did tonight when visiting WV2. Pjiper could have got this but for a poor last ride, Hefenbrock on his Monmore return also good value.
Most Entertaining Rider: Close call, no one stands out. Probably Leigh Lanham for sheer effort, with both Wolves reserves getting a mention.
Gert Handberg team riding award: Paul Hurry, heat 1.
David Ruud gating tart award: Magnus Karlsson popped out the gate once but did nothing when he didnt.
