Seeing as Pieman was standing alone at Monmore I expect there won't be many eye witness remarks!
Better performance though, well done to DAVID HOWE and glad to see him back on the track.

OK - I was there as well and seeing as we're down on numbers, I'll have a go PK - 9 - back to his old self, exciting stuff, a pleasure to watch DH - 10 - the best I have ever seen him ride - awesome! (I can give ten can't I?) THEO - 9 - what a star tonight, 200% effort, thrilling stuff. I love watching him ride - good signing. WL - 8 - deserved more points for his efforts, always in the thick of things, what a tryer! MK - 7- One good win and another couple of good races - I expected more from reserve - but hey what do I know Man of the Match - so so tempted to give it to Theo but DAVID HOWE it has to be for an exceptional nights work. He must be well chuffed with that

Reading breeze through to the next round of the KO Cup due to an impressive win at Smallmead on Friday and an ultimately lackluster effort against 5 man Wolves, who already operating rider replacement for Freddie Lindgren, lost Billy Hamill to a first bend fall in heat 3. Both Wolves reserves ended up taking their full compliment of 7 rides covering for the injured heat leader duo.
The meeting started out with Wolves looking to claw back the 22 point deficit with some determined riding, Peter Karlsson & Howe relegating Hancock to third in heat 1 before William Lawson went from last to first passing the the other three who drifted wide on turn 2 as he nipped up the inside and Magnus Karlsson using the same line to overtake Bird a lap later.
Despite the loss of Hamill Wolves still got maximum points in heat 3 as Zagar & Kolodziej struggled to get to grips with the tight Monmore Green circuit.
Even though McGowan overcame the younger Karlsson in heat 4 on the outside of turn 4 lap 1, he had no answer to Howe. But then the interest in the aggregate result was ended as in an incident filled heat 5 the Bulldogs secured a fortuitous 8-1 as Hancock took a T/R. Hancock neck and neck down the back straight with William Lawson used the outside line to pull clear, the young Scot got out of shape badly on turn 2, lap 3 allowing Pijper & Lemon through only for Pijper to fall on the final turn, a Hammer blow to the home side.
David Howe completely missed the gate in heat 8 but some determined riding saw him battle his way to the lead finally slipping inside Lemon on the exit of turn 2, lap 2. Howe was in the action again in heat 10 swapping positions for 3 laps with Kolodziej, finally pulling clear on the third lap, Koloziej lifted wildly on the last lap allowing Zagar through for the consolation point.
Theo Pijper has claimed several renown scalps of late and almost did so again heading Greg Hancock for heat 11, only for the turn 3 & 4 cut-back to finally see Hancock into the lead on lap 3. The Bulldogs had clearly taken note of the move as Zagar used it to good effect to overtake both Wolves reserves on consecutive laps on heat 12 & Kolodziej overcame Pijper likeside in heat 14. A superb heat 13 saw the Bulldogs leap from the gate, with the elder Karlsson giving chase, with Hanock urging McGowan to join him but worried that the Wolves skipper was hot on the Aussie's heels never slowed down enough for McGowan to get on level terms, finally a inside dive on the final turn of the final lap saw Hancock & Karlsson cross the line together, on the reply Hancock was about a ¼ of a bikes length in front but it was a close call.
PK had to do it the hard way in heat 15 squeezing between Zagar and the fence at the end of the first lap, to cries of "He's on the blooming dog track" from one Wolves fan close by me.
All in all Reading go through but should really have won on the night too, Danny Bird was dreadful wobbling like a junior 20 yards behind the action much of the time, Simota looks a pale shadow of the wide dirt line rider that appeared at Monmore last year and the middle order were very hit & miss. For Wolves, Magnus Karlsson even at reserve on a busy night must still cause concern, in heat 11 he was level with the two Reading riders down the back straight and appeared to switch off completely.
Rider of the Night: Peter Karlsson, ¼ of a bike away from a paid maximum. Most Entertaining Rider: David Howe, determined riding in heats 8 & 10 earn him this. Not quite as spectacular as Peter Karlsson's moves but more important points wise. Gert Handberg team riding award: Magnus Karlsson often got in the way of Lawson/Pijper. David Ruud gating tart award: None really, all bar the Reading reserves were involved in the action.
Individual scorers:
WOLVERHAMPTON: P Karlsson 14, Howe 12 & 3, M Karlsson 10, Pijper 8, Lawson 6 & 2, Hamill DNR, R/R for Lindgren. READING: Hancock 12, Zagar 9 & 1, McGowan 7, Lemon 5 & 1, Kolodziej 3, Simota 3, Bird 0.
