*yawn* *stretch* *rub eyes*
OK so it wasn't quite that bad an evening at Monmore tonight, but if I didn't have a season ticket I'd have been gutted about paying £15 to watch the match. As a contest it was over after two heats, only a inspired display from Marcin Rempala was likely to save the Suffolk Witches and it was obvious that, that wasn't going to happen as he team rode Chris Schramm home for a 5-1 to the opposition. Ipswich were utterly woeful. It is of course not their fault that David Norris, guesting for injured Mark Loram withdrew after two laps, or that their team is hopelessly short on top end strength. Nor is it Wolverhampton's fault that the racing was at a premium after the second bend, you can only beat what the opposition puts before you.
Chirs Louis & Kim Jansson had the beating of the Wolves tail, one inspired ride from Robert Miskowiak when he gated and put his bike exactly where Billy Hamill wanted to put his on the first lap causing the former World Champion to lock up and lose allot of ground, was awful. Marcin Rempala must have been pushing the record number of 0's on a scorecard, it's not just his gating that's awful he is virtually off the throttle completely by the time he enters a corner.
Thankfully Chris Scrhamm rode in determined fashion and popped out of the gate a couple of times, once to join Jansson for a completely unexpected 5-1 in heat 14 and in heat 4.
Heat 4 was about the only heat that had anything to savor. Schramm gated, Magnus Karlsson got level with him down the back straight and tried to round the Witches #8 but was taken wide enough to be off the racing line however Fredrick Lindgren was savvy enough to read the situation and cut back to get under Schramm exiting turn 4. As the riders entered turn 1 lap 1, Schramm fell. Karlsson did an excellent job to avoid him, Miskowiak had half the length of the straight to react so no worries on that score.
For Wolverhampton only Hamill dropped points of the top four as David Howe, Peter Karlsson & Fredrick Lindgren all collected paid maximums. The younger Karlsson did enough but faded later on in the meeting, Carl Wilkinson rode the wide line bravely and is getting to grips with the Monmore shale but Theo Pijper can be a little disappointed with a 5 point return, should score more against such weak opponents.
Action wise I'm struggling to remember anything except for heat 4. Louis appeared to jump the start in heat 3 but Hamill made a superb second bend swoop near the boards to take the lead, the American used the same move on Jansson a couple of heats later.
Howe sneaked up the inside on the exit turn two if he missed the gate a couple of times but that was really all. Eh.. it's desperate but Hamill & Lindgren team rode well in heat 15, Lindgren on the inside, Hamill out wide but they didn't need to, the Witches nominated pairing were well back.
I really do hope the Witches are able to secure a signing or two to make them more competitive, because matches like this do little for anyone, especially the loyal Ipswich fans.
Rider of the Night: When 3 riders score a maximum in a one sided match it's hard to judge really, well done to all three. I'm gonna give this to Chris Schramm just for his gutsy efforts. Most Entertaining Rider: Struggling again. Billy Hamill's two second bend swoops the highlights, so he gets this. Gert Handberg team riding & David Ruud gating tart awards... meh, not that intersting a meeting.
Individual scorers:
WOLVES 63: Freddie Lindgren 13+2, Billy Hamill 13+1, Peter Karlsson 11+1, David Howe 10+2, Magnus Karlsson 6+2, Carl Wilkinson 5+1, Theo Pijper 5. IPSWICH 29: Chris Louis 9, Kim Jansson 8, Chris Scrhamm 5+2, Robert Miskowiak 5, Marcin Rempala 2, David Norris 0, Zibi Suchecki r/r.

What he said!!
..and...
PK - 9 David - 9 Billy - 9 Theo - 7 Freddie - 9 Carl - 8 Magnus - 7
Crap meeting, waste of money, blooming cold, no good racing to remember - should have stayed at home and watched Snooker and Coronation Street for more excitement and much lower expenditure.

I wondered about giving tens and decided that even though they achieved maximums there may be more difficult maximums, against better sides, or away from home, later in the season so I reserved the top scores for those occasions. Did that make any sense?
