ratings for tonight then.....................
PK......10, poor opposition, but the VERY dominant PK turned up tonight.......and a new track record too! David...9, this young man is having an outstanding season...shame about ht15 Billy......9, cracking nights work out wide Theo....4, score doesnt do him justice tonight, much more effort.............and on Chris Kerr's bikes too! Freddie..8....beaten by Tomicek? Carl.......3, 2 machine failures, but his third ride lacked nothing apart from a point! Magnus..9.....can we have crap opposition every week.............if only for Magnus lol. He did look like a rider with something to prove tonight however
Ref: Jim Lawrence...........only 1 call to make all night, and fluffed it..................must have been on a promise!
Crowd: well down, even Littlechef saw ALL the action
Entertainment: I actually enjoyed tonight, and i HATE thrashings, credit to Oxford through the first 6 heats, but after that they had nothing!
Good to see Danny again, looks as though he would do pretty well if he came back to top-flight speedway, but poor old JBJ had an absolute mare!

After missing out on Monmore last week and the two previous meetings at Perry Barr, I should have been looking forward to this. Sadly the current plight of the once great Oxford Cheetahs left me far from enthusiastic about the meeting. The only questions beforehand being who will actually show up to represent the men from Cowley & will that makeshift team manage to get 30 points?
It wasn't as bad a meeting as the Witches visit to WV2, but it was far from exciting. The Oxford bottom four all tried to the best of their abilities, After missing out on Monmore action last week and the two recent meetings at Perry Barr, I should have been looking forward to this (one due to rain).
The Oxford bottom four all tried to the best of their abilities, Lubos Tomicek providing their only heat win when Freddie Lindgren almost fell on the final bend of lap 3, allowing him past in heat 4. Guest Daniel Nermark showed speed, aggression, willing and determination but got a little out of shape too often to trouble the Wolves top end. What an addition he would be to his parent clubs bottom end, though!
Oxford's only rider of genuine quality, Jesper B Jensen had a night to forget touching the tapes in his first ride and having an engine failure on the last bend of heat 9 while leading.
For Wolves Magnus Karlsson showed improved form, dropping only one point, strange rider when he hits the front he's quick, if amongst traffic he's slow and tentative. Billy Hamill covering his back certainly helps I'm sure, as the former World Champion did in heat 12 to thwart the efforts of Steve Johnston. The Wolves top four were rarely troubled; Lindgren dropped a point when he almost fell, Billy Hamill scored a maximum but Jensen had him beat before his engine blew and David Howe's bike slowed when he was leading heat 15 before Tomicek fell.
It was Howe that provided the only real overtaking maneuver of the night battling Ricky Kling for a lap & half in heat 6 before pulling clear before making the wide line work to pull clear. Actually, I'm wrong Hamill swooped past Freddie Eriksson down the back straight/entering turn 3 in heat 3, lap 1. Tomicek also passed Theo Pjiper on the inside, when the Dutchman was shoved wide by Johnston entering turn 3, lap 1 in heat 14. Pjiper chased but just failed to catch the Czech reserve on the line.
Nermark had a couple of close battles with Howe in heat 1 and Lindgren later on. Carl Wilkinson looked to have the speed to overtake Eriksson in heat 11 but got out of shape in turns 3 & 4, lap 2 and gave the disappearing Eriksson a single finger salute. I can only assume the Wolves reserve thought the Swede took his line, I didn't think Eriksson did anything untoward myself.
Ohh.. and Peter Karlsson is the first man to go under 55 seconds ever at Monmore Green, taking the track record unexpectedly in heat 1. I say unexpectedly because Howe was closing the gap on the Swede in the final two laps so I didn't think he was traveling _that_ fast.
Rider of the Night: Magnus Karlsson's much improved display gets him this award just ahead of his elder brother. Most Entertaining Rider: Daniel Nermark, didn't overtake anyone, but it wasn't for lack of effort. Gert Handberg team riding: Peter Karlsson & David Howe continue to race each other, rather than ride together. David Ruud gating tart award: Eh, no-one really fits the bill tonight. Gert Handberg team riding: Peter Karlsson & David Howe continue to race each other, rather than ride together. David Ruud gating tart award: Eh, no-one really fits the bill.
STAR RATINGS...
PK - 8, didn't have much to beat except Howe who seems to be the only rider he's passed this year. DH - 9, Paid max, except for a bike blip in heat 15. BH - 9, would be 10 if he hadn't been shown the way home for 3.5 laps by JBJ. Good team riding for a few laps with MK in heat 12. TP - 2, awful, mostly. FL - 8, should have got a max and would have but for nearly falling in heat 4. CW - 3, didn't score a point but not for lack of effort. MK - 9, much improved, especially impressive if he hits the front.
DN - 8, great effort. FE - 6, tried hard. SJ - ditto FE. JBJ - 3, unfortunate in two rides, woeful in his other two. RK - ditto FE. LT - ditto FE, plus 1 pt for winning a heat and being savvy (conservative) enough to overtake twice.

I enjoyed this meeting, i was being entertained by a comedy act of Abi and her mate Sam, oh yeh and Magnus actually turned up tonight PK - 9.5 (-0.5 for Racing his partner.) DH - 10 (Brilliant.) BH - 9 (Awesome team rider.) TP - 3 (He did seem to try tonight but he needs his own bikes.) FL - 9.5 (Passing outside and inside, Gooo Fred Perry!) CW - 5 (Freddie Ericksson took him far too wide IMO) MK - 8.5 (Gating was superb, and that was all he needed against this oppsition.More of this plz Magnus! ;D) Daniel - 8, brilliant. As said at the pub, most riders wont even go near him when hes infront, gutsy performance. What a shame we didnt sign him this year.
