Smartarse. 1987. I've had Per Jonsson stats fired at me on the BSF. Where they claim that Sam, at his best was not in the same class as Per Jonsson. Interesting because PJ (as well as being the inventor of comfortable and popular nightware) was always one of Sam's bogey riders. Never seen overall stats, but my recollection is of him beating Sam more often than vice versa. However, at their best, I think Sam's best just shades it - he was unbelievable in his WC year, when he topped the BL averages, with something like 54 BPs in an 11 point average. Amazing! But credit, much though I was never a PJ fan, he was a very good rider.

I agree Samuel E.
At worst Sam is his equal.

PJ and Sam had some fearsome battles. Anyone go to Reading that night when Sam cut across the 1st, 2nd bend at Reading and hung his PJ's on the 2nd bend fence? Brutal.

I don't remember Jonsson ever riding with Andy Smith. Timmy Mallet I think...
