so credibility doesnt play much part in the sport then?? PLayoffs were only introduced in US sprts cos of the distances teams would have to travel in 30s that if there was just 1 league in the US.

RANT-TIME!!!! I'm sick and tired of hearing the play-offs rubbished! Over the last couple of weeks in the SS there's been letters from so called Wolves fans saying 'Eastbourne are the real champs' - NO THEY'RE NOT!!!!!!!! It seems to me that people are so stuck in their ways that they refuse to accept anything new (I've read similar critisism of the BL cup). Let's face facts... 1 - Speedway can either sit back and cater for the die-hard fans and do nothing to attract new people or try to inject some excitement into the sport. 2 - Play-offs are a part of many, many sports - not just American sports - as the people who run the sports realised long ago that to take a competition to a one off sudden death final makes for VERY exciting watching! 3 - As one of the handful of Wolves fans who made the trip to Eastbourne, I can assure you that it was the most exciting speedway match I have ever been to! Taking nothing away from our previous League wins, but this was fantastic - the whole season going down to the result of the last heat of the play-off final......absolutely FAN-Bloody-TASTIC!!!!!! 4 - I know of at least 3 people, non-speedway fans, who watched the play-offs and have every intention of coming down to the Green this season to see it live, so to speak! Surely this is a good thing?! 5 - Like it or not, the play-offs are here to stay - personally I LOVE them - and if we finish the league first, and lose to someone else (Even the Beethens!) in the final this year, you won't find me moaning about how we should be champs etc!!! I'm willing to see the sport move forward - how about the rest of you?!!!!!

I couldn't agree more everyone knew the playoff's descided the league last season and I guess they are here to stay. Next season everyone will accept them more so not so many complaints hopefully. I couldn't travel to Eastbourne but I watched the match on sky, the excitment was great, how can you get better than going into the last heat to descide the league? Great stuff!! I'm glad to know that the final last year is going to attract more new fans, isn't that what it's all about? I too like to idea of the playoff's much better than a team running away with the league half way through the season in my view.

I think the 4 teams to make the play-offs this year will be Poole, Eastbourne, Coventry and Wolves. Dependant on finishing positions, i can see the final being Poole v Wolves, with Wolves winning narrowly because of last years experience. Hopefully, we will meet a full-strength Coventry in the semis and put an end to last years debate!

So Greatbridger thinks that football haven't adopted the playoffs. Where on earth have you been for the past few years? Obviously not a Wolves football fan...
The biggest prizes in football are decided by playoffs - the World Cup and Champions League... think about it.
Long may the speedway playoffs continue. Fans are always calling for the authorities to make the sport more exciting - yet when they introduce an exciting new concept (for speedway) the same old "stick in the muds" complain. Our title win last season was far more dramatic and memorable than the 1991 and 1996 title wins... which in comparison were something of a damp squib at the moment they were decided.
Times change, and the sport must move with them to survive and prosper...
Cheers, Mark.

Grow up lupus, cant take the heat stay out of the Kitchen. Can't take the heat? - it seems to me that the people who like to see the league decided in August are the one's who can't take the heat!!! As MM2 said, you must have been living on Mars if you think football haven't been affected by 'play-offs'...and at the end of the day, the world does not revolve around football! What about Rugby, Ice Hockey, Aussie Rules, American Football, Baseball, Basketball etc etc etc? If I have to grow up, perhaps you should put your flat cap and pipe in storage and get used to the 21st Century mate!!!!

Hey thats our first tiff I have a mixed view on this subject . Despite what lupus said about that night in Eastbourne last season, which I also agree was probably the most exciting match I've seen, I still feel the league should be won over a season not a few sudden death matches. However I agree that the play offs are a good addage to the season. Maybe the team winning the league(as in Eastbourne last season) should also be the winners of a trophy then the play offs continue as last year for the EL title. At least there is then some recognition for the team who finish top of the regular season DO YOU AGREE

I don't think he knows Rich., but he is giving me some good clues to his identity so let's leave him to carry on ey?! ;D I agree with you about the play-offs in that there should be some recognition for the team who finishes top of the league in the way of a trophy. The play-off champions should have their own, perhaps called the Sky Cup, and then everyone would be happy.

I've got an idea but I don't know if I'm right. Think it's someone who goes to Monmore every week but doesn't support the Wolves. Just got to check the spelling on the speedway-forum. .. ;D
