Wolves collapsed to a comprehensive defeat at the hands of local rivals Coventry in their final Midland League fixture. With Thomas Jorgensen in the side for Ricky Wells at reserve, Wolves lined up slightly weakened and never really stepped up to the plate to challenge the impressive Bees.
Wolves found themselves 6 points behind early on with as first Eddie Kennett then Adam Roynon and Kenni Larsen lead the way in giving Coventry three consecutive 4-2’s, with some decent tight racing.
Heat four saw Wolves earn their first heat victory of the night as Tai Woffinden continued his blistering start to the season, flying through the middle of Scott Nicholls and Henning Bager down the back straight and flying round to take the chequered flag.
Next time around Wolves earned a heat advantage as they aimed to claw back the gap, with Ty Proctor taking victory from the gate, holding off a quick Kenni Larsen who had done well to pass Nicolai Klindt on the opening lap.
However, Coventry instantly hit back with a maximum as Scott Nicholls and Adam Roynon comfortably secured a 5-1 after leaving the Wolves duo behind from the gate.
Next time around Wolves took another huge blow that pretty much put the meeting out of sight. After making the gate, Tai Woffinden looked quick and comfortable out in front Kennett chasing him hard. However, on the final bend of the last lap, Woffinden surprisingly over cooked it and slid down, leaving Kennett and Larsen to give the Bees a 5-1.
The lead was soon 14 for the Bees as Aaron Summers led comfortably from the gate to win heat 8 ahead of Thomas Jorgensen, with Henning Bager in third.
Heat 9 saw Nicolai Klindt take a tactical ride for Wolves as he and Ty Proctor aimed to peg back Coventry. However, Scott Nicholls got away from the tapes quickest and the Wolves pair were never in the race, with Nicolai Klindt way back in third and relying on Ty Proctor slowing on the last lap to secure 4 points to give Wolves a 5-3 heat advantage.
Next time out Tai Woffinden came in as a rider replacement for Freddie Lindgren and took another tactical ride, and he duly delivered a 6 point win. At the back, Pontus Aspgren challenged Eddie Kennett and held off the Great Britain international until the third lap when he was eventually passed down the inside on the back straight.
In heat 11, Scott Nicholls got revenge on Tai Woffinden for his earlier defeat to the Wolves man and held off Woffinden after a good gate to give Coventry a 4-2 as Aaron Summers defeated Lukasz Sowka for third.
The Bees then had their third maximum of the evening, Kenni Larsen and Adam Roynon ensuring Wolves were again beaten to the first turn, with Klindt and Jorgensen unable to make any inroads from that point on.
Tai Woffinden then hit back in his battle with Scott Nicholls in heat 13, but Aaron Summers beat Pontus Aspgren to ensure the gulf between the sides remained at 15 points.
Another 3-3 followed with Kennett defeating Proctor and Jorgensen before the final race of the night provided us with the pick of the action.
A tough first bend saw Ty Proctor squeezed out and relegated to the back as teammate Woffinden raced clear. Nicholls and Kennett chased extremely hard and on the last bend Nicholls cut back and looked to have snatched victory on the line only for Woffinden to be adjudged as the winner leaving the final score as 40-55.
Rider Ratings
Wolves
Pontus Aspgren:- Endured a torrid time and although he challenged slightly he disappointingly failed to continue his improvement. 0
Nicolai Klindt:- Appeared to have bike problems and had a pretty terrible evening. Didn’t come close to winning a race all night. 2
Ty Proctor:- Had a good night and did pretty much all you can expect from him. A race win and some good points in his other outings. 3
Tai Woffinden:- Looked extremely quick once again. Only beaten by Scott Nicholls after failing to gate and after seemingly losing concentration and falling on the final lap when leading. Looked formidable out front in his other 4 outings. 4
Lukasz Sowka:- Again off the pace and doesn’t really appear to be improving. His only point came because of Woffinden falling. 0
Thomas Jorgensen:- Was pretty impressive in my mind. Looked a battler and got in the mix. A couple of good second places and better than I expected. 3
Coventry
Aaron Summers:- Did ok. Solid throughout and a good win in heat 8. 3
Kenni Larsen:- Looked extremely quick and could have had more points. I was very impressed and he will be a crucial figure in the Bees side this year. 4
Edward Kennett:- Also looked very quick and his three race wins were invaluable to his sides victory. 4
Scott Nicholls:- Probably the pick of the Bees riders. Outstanding when out in front in his three race wins and charged very hard when behind. 4.5
Adam Roynon:- Extremely impressive. Three paid race wins out of 4 was brilliant from reserve. 4.5 MAN OF THE MEETING
Henning Bager:- Didn’t do particularly well but three points on the board are better than none. 1
