What everyone thought would be a waste of time turned out to be a cracking meeting with probably the best away performance by a Wolves team for 2 years.
Everyone thought that a match race would be involved along the line but no one would have expected that it would be Poole requesting it.
Poole were hit badly by having to use R/R for Miedzinski coupled with their second strings and reserves all having an off night, with Ward and Holder scoring 36 of their 50 points.
Strange decision to give Ty Heat 15 in favour of Robert who had beaten Holder fair and square earlier but it very nearly turned out ok.
Heat 15 was a cracker with passing and repassing, and you could have thrown a blanket over all 4 riders for the first 2 laps before Ward and Holder predictably pulled clear to produce a scoreline which flattered the Pirates.
Weather: Sunny and Warm.
Track - the Poole track and sunny and warm weather don't usually mix well but the track was well prepared and produced some good racing, not getting dusty until the last couple of heats.
Referee - Chris Gay - had nothing out of the ordinary to do.
Crowd - usual size of Poole crowd who were very quiet until Ward and Kling's 5-1 in Heat 9 - just 6 Wolves fans to witness a treat.
Freddie - beat Holder in heat 1 and gave Ward a great race in Heat 11. The Match Race between Fred and Ward was pretty much a non event with Ward leading from the favoured inside gate. Gave Proctor Gate 2 in Heat 15, taking the unfavoured Gate 4 to give us the best chance of a 5 -1 which would have given us victory on the night. 4/5
Pontus - fell in heat 1 when last. After that very competitive 4/5
Robert - beat Holder quite easily in Heat 6, way at the back in the only race that he missed the gate 4/5
TY - looked much faster than he has done for a while. Gave a good account of himself in Heat 15 by making a blinder of a gate 4/5
Ricky - struggled a bit as he does away - needs to find the consistency that he has found at home - the only real downer on the evening 2/5
Ashley Morris - what a debut - was in the thick of the action in his first 3 races - great pass of Kling in Heat 4, unlucky to lift when on a 5 - 1 with Pontus in Heat 8 but still finished third ahead of Kurtz. Not many points but lots of effort and way above expectations so my Wolves Man of the Match 4/5
Lets hope that this is a watershed and the start of much improved performances on the road for the team.
