Well that could have gone either way, and it nearly did!
The eagles did what they had to in the closing stages and took maximums in 12 and 14 to ensure they would get a point out of the meeting.
A point well earned all the same.
Track rode much more difficult than it looked and riders were finding it hard to turn particularly on the opening bend.
Im unsure if the track was just that more heavier or the new dirt that had been put down is still not quite binding - maybe a bit of both.
One point for RR for the Eagles umtimately cost them, along with an tough nite for Cameron (saved it in heat 14) and 2 costly falls for Lukas.
As the meeting went on the racing did improve as heat 15 showed with Kylmakorpi hanging onto the back wheels of Fred and Tai and was busting a gut to split them. Great heat.
A below average crowd, put off by the weather no doubt, and easily the worst crowd of the season.
WOLVES
FRED - Fast Freddie is back!! Looked sublime, gating superbly, plenty of speed and besides heat 15 no one even got close to him. The class returns 5/5 MOTM
TY - Ty is going about his business quietly this season but doing his job well. Isnt adding spectacularly to his average but putting in more consistent 6-8 points now. Was excellent in heats 6 and 8 and came back from a nasty get off (shoulder injury announced) in heat 10 to wind it on and get passed Woodward in a great battle. Certainly earned cheers from the crowd before and after the race. Solid night. 3/5
NIC - oh dear. hasnt taken the Klindt haters long to start chanting `bring back Miskowiak` (stevebrum shudders at the thought). On a tough track was probably going to be a punishing meeting for him. Couldnt turn going into the 1st bend corners from the start (and he wasnt alone in that) but got caught out everytime. Great effort in heat 4 to catch out a tentative ride from woodward but sadly that was the only positive of his night. An awful first home return meeting. 0.5/5
Ricky - Did his job and scored above his average. Looked quick enough and was certainly in battle mode. Gave it his all in heat 14 after got caught napping by Woodward to try and get back on terms. Good effort, decent points return. 3/5
TAI - Only got beaten by Gustaffson so our top 2 definetly carried us to victory tonight. Great attempt to help Pontus in heat 11 after chatting to him at the start. The plan clearly worked as he trapped Joonas on the inside and allowed Pontus around. Unfortunately all of Tai`s hard work was undo in the space of 20 yards. Great team ride in heat 15 with frreddie to stop Joonas also. 4.5/5
PONTUS - looked dreadful in his first 2 races and was well off the pace. Looked a lot quicker in heat 11 (and in the first start) so maybe he might come good in reserve. maybe. maybe. 0.5/5
JACOB - he clearly loves iffy and dodgy tracks and this was another meeting he got stuck in well. Yes he failed to score in 3 heats (he took 6) but is by far the better prospect in reserve. 2013? YES PLEASE. 2.5/5
EAGLES -
Joonas - Points wise may have expected more and had an up and down night. He can still ride Monmore well so is always worth watching. 2.5/5
Lukas - threw his dummy out the pram twice when he came off and he caused the problem both time. Flashing the V sign with kids around - how mature eh. Had a good couple of opening rides and was in scoring positions when he crashed both times. Highly costly. 2/5
Simon - Up to heat 15 looked a threat and consistently probably the Eagles best rider. Not sure if he had bike problems in heat 7 but there was a tight bunching down the back straight that he appeared to come out of the worse. Always good to watch. Classy rider. 3.5/5
Cameron - could have been a costly mistake if he hadnt pulled it out the bag in heat 14. Struggled the rest of the night. 1/5
Denis - much better than last time i saw him. Looked confident on the track and prepared for a battle. Always in the mix. 3.5/5
Timo - as expected a real threat in reserve and has plenty of pace and track craft. The Eagles reserves outscored the Wolves 6-15. 3.5/5
