Ste has mentioned the annoying pop up adverts that we get on here. I find them annoying too. The situation is that I searched the net to find a suitable forum. This one seems the best, it's free (to us), but they get their money from advertising, hence the annoying pop ups.
You can get small pieces of software which are supposed to stop these pop ups, but I have one of those programs and still get them! I'll have a search later to see if I can find a better one.
The other option is we can try the forum for a while, and if we think it's suitable, we can get an ad free forum for $6.99 per month (just less than five pounds) - see the link at the bottom of the page. This would only take 10 people to put in 50 pence per month (for example)... or we could try to get someone to sponsor the board for a month or so... what do people think?

[shadow=red,left,300]I agree Mark.[/shadow] ;D If the forum continues to work as well as it is now and is generally liked by the members - we should pay the money and get rid of the ads. Sponsorship would be great if anyone has got any ideas but for 50p each a month let's go for it anyway.

We could find a way ourselves maybe. A few years ago they used to sell football names from a card then the winner got some of the money you made and the rest went into the funds of whoever you were making money for. I don't even know if the still do them or where to get them from but if anyone has any other ideas then I would be willing to sit in the bar and sell them(or something like them) or I could collect a donation from all the people who use this site and would be willing to donate a small ammount, what does everyone think or have you got any other ideas? ;D

Could either MM2 or Lawt do some investigations and find out what the monthly cost would be for different forums, then maybe discuss it on here or maybe arrange on here a meeting in the bar one Monday after a meeting I personally though am certainly willing to pay a couple of quid a month if thats the way we decide to go. What does everyone else think

That's a good idea Rich, when Lawt and MM2 read this perhaps they could tell us what they think?

It sounds like everyone is being very supportive of this forum and the suggestion that we should eradicate the blinking (literally) ads by paying the fee. Mark (MM2) and I have chatted about it and decided that between us we will pay for the first four or five months and then appeal for donations, sponsorship, etc after that time. All of your help and offers of support both financial and other are appreciated and will be very useful. I believe that the system works so that we can click on the 'Make a donation' button at the bottom of the screen and pay into 'our' account. Then MM2 or I can use the money to clear the ads for a month at a time. Each credit ($6.99) we use gives us 50,000 ad free page views. That should be enough for now. I will play with it over the weekend...

OK - I have paid for the first month of ad-free viewing. It costs $6.99 (about a fiver I guess) and begins tomorrow (Saturday). It is a simple process and anyone can pay for a credit at any time by clicking on the Make donation button at the base of all pages. Then the Administrator (Me or MM2) can allocate the credits to any month. We should all be free of those annoying ads for a bit. Let's see how well it works. Cheers.

Beegee: You're a Reserve now. Congratulations!!
The ad-free thing seems to be working. Is it OK for everyone else too? Thanks Beegee for trying to send the donation - I think you may have had problems because you didn't tell it you were from outside the US. A fiver at the P & P day would be fine anyway, thanks very much indeed.

Beegee: Many thanks for the donation to keep the ad-free regime going. I paid the money into the 'Make Donation' system today and so it is there and ready to use for one of the forthcoming months. Good to see you again last night and thanks once more.

I have activated the Ad-Free subscription for April so we won't be plagued by the pop-ups. Please note everybody that [glow=red,2,300]BEEGEE[/glow] paid for this service for the month of April. Many thanks Beegee.
