PETERBOROUGH 47 WOLVERHAMPTON 42, ELITE LEAGUE B FIXTURE, 17TH AUGUST 2006

Niels-Kristian Iversen – 3, 1, 3, 3, 3, 0 = 13
Jesper B Jensen R/R
Richard Hall – Ex, 0, 3, 2, 0, 1, 1 = 7
Karol Zabik – Ex (WITHDREW)
Parry’s International Wolves:
Peter Karlsson - 2, 3, 2, 1, 2 = 10
Christian Hefenbrock – 0, 2*, 1, 1* = 4+2
Ronnie Correy – 0, 1*, 1*, 2 = 4+2
Billy Hamill – 2, 2, 2, 2, 1* = 9+1
Fredrik Lindgren – 1, 1, 2, 0 = 4
Trent Leverington – 3, 0, 0 = 3
Magnus Karlsson – 2*, 3, 3, 0, 0 = 8+1
Peterborough!! The flag was up the flagpole, the clouds looked threateningly dark and PK was doing an impression of a swimming duck. A photo was taken of the Wolves fans saluting the flag before the meeting started which nobody thought we stood any chance of performing well.
I don’t know who won the toss but Peterborough had gates 1 and 3.
Heat 1: Hans Andersen, Peter Karlsson, Ulrich Ostergaard, Christian Hefenbrock. 61.8. 4-2
From the gate, the well-behaved and perfect gentleman that is Hans Andersen won even though his bike made some interesting noises. Christian couldn’t see after the first turn so he was well behind.
Heat 2: Trent Leverington, Magnus Karlsson, Richard Hall (Fell, Excluded) Karol Zabik. (Fell, Excluded) 68.1. 0-5, 4-7
In the first running of the heat, Zabik falls on the third bend after Trent Leverington had passed Richard Hall on the back straight. Zabik was excluded, covered in mud and withdrew from the meeting with a groin injury. (Bad luck for anyone with him in their fantasy league teams, as the departure appears to be permanent!)
In the re-run, Magnus and Trent gate but Hall slides off on the first bend with nobody near him. He stays on the track in a girly strop and is rightly excluded. The race is re-run again with the Wolves “earning” a 5-0.
Heat 3: Niels-Kristian Iversen, Billy Hamill, Ryan Sullivan, Ronnie Correy. 62.1. 4-2, 8-9
Ronnie was in front of Sullivan for 3 laps but Sullivan passed him on the inside on the 4th bend of the third lap.
Heat 4: Magnus Karlsson, Ulrich Ostergaard, Fredrik Lindgren, Richard Hall. 63.6. 2-4, 10-13
Magnus gates and wins easily (Superguest goes mad on the backstraight) Fredrik passed Hall on bend 2, lap 2 on the inside. He didn’t get out the start.
Heat 5: Peter Karlsson, Christian Hefenbrock, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Ryan Sullivan. 63.3. 1-5, 11-18
From the gate, Christian kept Iversen behind him to get a 5-1 for Wolves. We’re in the lead!! (Don’t get excited, it won’t last…)
Heat 6: Ulrich Ostergaard, Hans Andersen, Fredrik Lindgren, Trent Leverington, 63.0. 5-1, 16-19
Told you it wouldn’t last. From the gate, Fredrik made a bad start and never really caught up to the away riders. Wobbly Ostrich and The Fairytale Dane did some excellent team riding.
Heat 7: Richard Hall, Billy Hamill, Ronnie Correy, Ryan Sullivan. (EF) 63.9. 3-3, 19-22
Hall passed both Wolves before the end of lap 2 on the outside. Sullivan gated and led but had an Engine Failure just short of the finish line allowing both Wolves to pass him.
Heat 8: Magnus Karlsson, Richard Hall, Christian Hefenbrock, Ulrich Ostergaard. 64.0. 2-4, 21-26
Magnus gates and speeds off in front. Brilliant race between Richard “Girly Strop” Hall and Christian who swap positions throughout the race until Hall gets it on the last bend.
Heat 9: Niels-Kristian Iversen, Fredrik Lindgren, Ryan Sullivan, Trent Leverington. 63.4. 4-2, 25-28
Fredrik Lindgren and Ryan “Can only ride one track if he gates” Sullivan had a good, tough battle for second but Fredrik pulled ahead and nearly passed Iversen.
Heat 10: Hans Andersen, Billy Hamill, Ronnie Correy, Ulrich Ostergaard. 63.0. 3-3, 28-31
Hans Andersen passed Billy Hamill at the end of lap one. Ronnie rode an amazing race. The Rocket passed Ostergaard and held him off for two laps. Billy’s bike stopped after the race.
Heat 11: Hans Andersen, Peter Karlsson, Christian Hefenbrock, Richard Hall. 63.6. 3-3, 31-34
Christian rode a brilliant race to keep Hall at the back. The celebration wheelie and wave to the crowd was very appreciated by the noisy gang of travelling Wolves.
Heat 12: Ryan Sullivan, Ronnie Correy, Richard Hall, Magnus Karlsson. (No time written down = Sorry!) 4-2, 35-36
It was a 5-1 for two laps to Peterborough but the Rocket produced a fabulous ride round the outside of Hall for second place. Brilliant stuff from the usually subdued Ronnie at Peterborough, Had he forgotten where he was?
Heat 13: Niels-Kristian Iversen, Hans Andersen, Peter Karlsson, Fredrik Lindgren. 63.7. 5-1, 40-37
From the gate. As an interesting fact, did you know Hans Andersen sells “Hans Andersen Mints” on his website? They cost £1 to purchase plus P+P. It’s about £6.00 altogether. It’s a very good idea, I think more riders should sell confectionary as merchandise.
Heat 14: Niels-Kristian Iversen, Billy Hamill, Richard Hall, Magnus Karlsson. 64.9. 4-2, 44-39
Billy Hamill led for a lap but was passed by both home riders. Billy passed Hall who passed him back but then Billy passed him again. Confusingly written isn’t it? Magnus Karlsson was way behind.
Heat 15: Hans Andersen, Peter Karlsson, Billy Hamill, Niels-Kristian Iversen. 64.5. 3-3, 47-42
Billy rode well to block Iversen. Think I’ll order a packet of mints…..
Considering we all thought a bad defeat was on the cards, this wasn’t a terrible result. It just seems that way because we let it slip away towards the end. If you’d been offered a 5-point deficit at the start of the evening then most people would have taken it.
The thing I noticed is that the Wolves fans were acknowledged by most of the team – Very professional of the riders.
Comment/Summary:
Weather: Surprisingly dry with threatening looking clouds. It had rained a fair bit earlier.
Track: Wet with some dirt that was scraped off as the meeting went on.
Attendance: Poor – A drowning fish (A good showing of Wolves fans)
Wolves Performance: Reasonably good. They all tried hard and did a lot better than expected.
Entertainment: Twas Alright.
Referee: Was there a referee? Rightly excluded Hall and Zabik. No other decisions really.
Man of the Match: Ronnie Correy – For pure determination and he’s never done well at Peterborough before!!
Rider Ratings: (now on a scale of ten with 6 being the average expectation)
Peter Karlsson: 7 - An OK showing but I’d have expected better since he rode there last season.
Christian Hefenbrock: 8 - Some very clever rides by the young German. His score didn’t reflect his riding.
Ronnie Correy: 8 - I don’t believe it was Ronnie on the bike – He obviously inspired by Advisor/Ruth!!
Fredrik Lindgren: 5 - Sadly, under par and couldn’t get out the gate. In fact, I don’t know why I’m writing this if I can’t give him a high star rating.
Billy Hamill: 7 - I’m never quite sure what “average” is with Billy.
Trent Leverington: 6 - I expected him to score 0 – He tried!!
Magnus Karlsson: 8 - Brilliant 3 rides (Especially Heat 8) but tailed off in later rides. Still a very good showing compared to earlier in the season.
