5. Freddie Lindgren 3...3...2...0 8
6. Carl Wilkinson 1...0...0...0 1
7. Magnus Karlsson 0...1...0...2 3
Lawt reports that the track looks well-watered, greasy even. There's a healthy crowd, lots of Wolves fans, and an optimistic mood now Schlein is absent.
Heat 1: PK, David, Janniro, Richardson - 1-5 = 1-5
The best possible start, done from the gate. The GT didn't gate!
Heat 2: Allen, Smolinski, Carl, Magnus - 5-1 = 6-6
It looked hopeful when Smolinski's bike packed up at the gate, but he had a generous 2 minute allowance to get a new bike. All from the gate, 20 yards between each rider.
Heat 3: Billy, Allen, Risager, Theo - 3-3 = 9-9
Cracking race. Risager led for the first lap and a half, then Billy drove hard but fair down the inside on the back straight, moving Risager aside.
Heat 4: Freddie, Harris, Magnus, Smolinski EF - 2-4 = 11-13
Superb start from Magnus who promptly dropped to last place on the first bend, but not before creating a gap for Freddie to take the lead. Harris pressured Freddie throughout. Smolinski's bike stopped on the last bend when he was safe for a point.
Heat 5: PK, Risager, David, Richardson - 2-4 = 13-17
David flew from the gate, but the ref deemed it an unfair start (not clear why to Lawt). PK and David gated but Risager squeezed past David, who settled for third after a hairy moment on lap 3.
Lawt is pleased to report that team spirit seems very high, the Wolves riders geeing each other up before each race.
Heat 6: Freddie, Richardson, Janniro, Carl - 3-3 = 16-20
A win from the gate for Freddie. Carl was competitive but slipped off on the first bend. He remounted, but was out of contention.
Heat 7: Billy, Allen, Harris, Theo - 3-3 = 19-23
A classic tapes-to-flag win by Billy, 35-40 yards ahead of Allen. Theo looks out of his depth, machinery-wise, riding well but just not quick enough.
Heat 8: David, Janniro, Smolinski, Magnus - 3-3 = 22-26
Another win from the gate, Janniro miles behind. Magnus in a different time zone - Lawt wrote 'dire' against his name.
Heat 9: Harris, Freddie, Risager, Carl - 4-2 = 26-28
Freddie gated and led for two laps until Harris powered around the outside on lap 3, bends 1&2, snatching the lead on the back straight. Lawt says Freddie possibly thought he had it in the bag and lost concentration.
Heat 10: Billy, Richardson, Janniro, Theo F/X - 3-3 = 29-31
Theo excluded from first run. He and Billy gated, but Richardson came inside Theo at the end of lap 1. Theo tried to take him back but got too close to Richardson and baled out on the second bend of lap 2. Theo ok, walked back to the pits. Billy, off 4, made a poor start in the re-run but showed his class around the first bend to drive around both Cov riders to emerge in front on the back straight. It's interval time now.
Heat 11: Harris, PK, David, Allen fell - 3-3 = 32-34
This could have been better, could have been worse. The Cov pair gated but Allen got out of shape on the second bend and slid off, leaving a 3-3. Risager and Allen are in heat 12.
Heat 12: Risager, Magnus, Allen, Billy Ex - 4-2 = 36-36
Magnus in for Carl. First run, all four into first bend together, but they can't all have the same bit of track and Allen comes off quite hard. A typical all 4 back, but unbelievably the ref (Dan Holt) has excluded Billy. Allen up after a short delay. Billy on the phone but it's to no avail. Cov gate for a 5-1 but Allen's bike stops with half a lap left and Magnus picks up his second spawny point. Allen pushes home for third.
Heat 13: PK, Harris, Richardson, Freddie - 3-3 = 39-39
The Cov pair gated, but PK emerged in front on the back straight. Freddie gave chase for a lap or so, but had a dodgy moment and lost ground.
Heat 14: Risager, Allen, Theo, Carl - 5-1 = 44-40
As you can imagine, Lawt was pretty peed off. The air was blue. I've never heard such obscenities since I last looked on the urban dictionary.
Heat 15: PK, Harris, Richardson, Billy - 3-3 = 47-43
Reporter replacement for this one, with Pieman standing in for Lawt who had done a runner. PK from the gate. Harris shoved Billy hard on the first bend, but Billy stayed up.
