Poole Pirates pairing Chris Holder and Darcy Ward struck maximums as the reigning champions put one foot into the next round of the KO Cup with a superb 39-54 victory away against a depleted Wolverhampton Wolves side.
Poole took the upper hand in the very first race of the night, with Holder taking a dominant victory ahead of Freddie Lindgren in second after the Swede pulled off a good move to pass compatriot Ricky Kling to limit the damage to a 4-2.
A 3-3 followed in heat 2 thanks to a good win for Wolf Ricky Wells, before Adrian Miedzinski held off Lindgren brilliantly in heat 3 to keep the sides two points apart with a level race.
The away side then doubled their advantage, Darcy Ward cruising to victory ahead of Wells, with youngster Kyle Howarth beating Wolves new boy Robert MIskowiak to third.
Chris Holder bagged his second race win of the night in sensational style in heat 5, just getting around the outside of Ty Proctor coming onto the final lap after his fellow Aussie had held him off brilliantly for three laps.
Next time out, Darcy Ward defeat Freddie Lindgren, with brother Ludvig taking third for the Pirates to move them 6 ahead.
Heats 7 and 8 were both level, with Swedes Dennis Andersson and Pontus Aspgren taking good wins for Poole and Wolves respectively, before the away side moved 8 ahead courtesy of a Darcy Ward and Ludvig Lindgren 4-2 in heat 9.
With the gap now at 8 points, Wolves were able to take advantage of the new man on man rule in place in the KO Cup. Number one Fredrik Lindgren was nominated to go up against Poole man Chris Holder, where a Wolves win would result in a 3-0 but a Poole victory would keep the scores as they were. After a tight first lap, Lindgren charged inside Holder, and after the Aussie skidded into the fence, the race was awarded and Wolves were back within 5.
Yet that chance to get back into the meeting was instantly thrown away in heat 10, as Dennis Andersson and Adrian Miedzinski did a superb job to hold off the below-par Lindgren for a Pirates 5-1.
Poole captain Holder preserved his maximum in heat 11 in another 3-3, before Ward and Miedzinski moved the away side 13 points clear with a 5-1 over Lindgren and Ty Proctor.
Another wonderful Holder blast around the boards in heat 13 kept his side way ahead with a 3-3, before Wolves managed to claw two points back in the penultimate race of the night as Ricky Wells took the win ahead of Ludvig Lindgren, with under-fire reserve Lukasz Sowka beating Kyle Howarth to third.
Yet that was irrelevant at that stage, and a simple victory was complete for Poole after the “Turbo Twins” Holder and Ward made it 9 heat 15 maximums out of 9 so far this season, ending the meeting with a comfortable 5-1 over Miskowiak and Lindgren.
The home side really did fail to overcome the absence of injury victims Nicolai Klindt and Tai Woffinden, putting in a poor display. On a day when they really did need number one Fredrik Lindgren to step up to the plate with a massive score, he had a very off day and did not win a race on his way to only 7. Reserve Ricky Wells (12+2) battled all the way through and was well deserving of a big score, whilst Ty Proctor (7+2) also scored in every heat and picked up some good points. However, Wolves really were lacking a heat leader, and only 3 race winners out of 15 at home really is not good enough at all. Robert Miskowiak (6+1) also did ok on debut, but the lack of a big scorer was the major issue.
Poole really did put in an exceptional team display which provided a sensational 12 race winners away from home. Chris Holder and Darcy Ward really did look untouchable on their way to maximums, but the support they received from Adrian Miedzinski (7+2) was also exceptional, as he was beaten only once. Although he had an up and down night, Dennis Andersson (6) added two valuable race wins, whilst Ludvig Lindgren (5+1) and Kyle Howarth (4+1) did all that was asked of them at reserve in a great all round team display.
SCORES (/5)
Wolverhampton Wolves
Freddie Lindgren:- Very much below par. Worst I have seen him at Monmore in a long time. 1.5
Pontus Aspgren:- One good win, but struggled against a very strong team. 1
Robert Miskowiak:- Did ok and got quicker as the night went on. Will be a decent replacement I think. 2.5
Ty Proctor:- Looking much better this season. Scored in every race, and very unlucky not to have more. 3
R/R:- We need a replacement fast if Woffinden will be out for a long time.
Ricky Wells:- A superb reserve, very consistent and having a great season. Moving on to the next level and will be a big boost for us when he swaps with Pontus and moves to two. 4
Lukasz Sowka:- Unlucky to lose his steel shoe in race one, good third over Howarth in 3rd ride. Looks decent after the first lap, but so tentative around turns 1 and 3. 1
Poole Pirates
Chris Holder:- Looked unbeatable, some superb blasts around the outside. Awesome. 5
Ricky Kling:- Did ok. Could have done more though, worst Poole rider. 1.5
Darcy Ward:- Unbeatable like Holder. Faultless display. 5 MOTM
Dennis Andersson:- Incredibly inconsistent. Brilliant when out front in two of his rides, abysmal when at the back in his other two. 3
Adrian Miedzinski:- 3 brilliant battles with Lindgren in which he prevailed. Great display. 4
Ludvig Lindgren:- Looked pretty fast, very solid display. 3
Kyle Howarth:- Gated well and took vital points at the back. 2.5
