For a few days at least we are top of the league! We have 18 points, a total I think we achieved mid august last season. (Final 2012 total 31 points.) Again, averages work to our advantage as well known riders become heroes rather than endlessly frustrating villains.
I don't these days keep up to date with averages and team building rules but, out of curiosity, is there a window of opportunity ahead where we make a ruthless change ( a la Poole) in order to improve our chances of silverware come October? Just provoking debate: I don't for a second expect it to happen - even if it is possible.

Lots of reads but no responses. Ah-um. So, let's try this: So far so good?

it could be a-la Kings Lynn
They have signed Richie Worrall partly due to the loophole in his average which will soon be near to six from 3.00 and will mean Simon Stead or more likely Nicolai Klindt will move to reserve for a month

Klindt's scores so far confirm we have made the right decision.

Brilliant start to the season, could not see this coming. I was sure we would not be competetive and end up in the bottom two but on the back of the superb form of Tai, Ty and Ludde (relative to their averages) and the others being very solid I dont think our league position flatters us, although some tough matches coming up will most likely give us a clearer picture as to our chances of success this year.
As I see it the rolling average method makes it harder to make that sneaky change late on that can vastly improve the team. Riders averages seem far more representative this way as they are claculated on more matches, by definition a more balanced figure. So if you want to make a change it is more likely that you will only be able to bring in a rider of similar ability and not one who is clearly on a false average and much better than the one being replaced. Although I am relieved Nic isnt in our team this year I was really saddened watching him ride the last two nights, his confidence seems shot he is a much better rider than that, when on form there was no better rider to wach around the Green IMO.

Great Start and much better than everyone expected.
Its good to see us strong at home again.
Away from home there has been much improvement too, and that has been helped by us definitely being in the right place at the right time so far on our visits:
Belle Vue - first match of the sesaon and none of their riders were firing
Eastbourne - Gustafsson and Shields both way off form
Poole - the turbo twins both having uncharacteristic bad nights and Andersson not looking interested on borrowed machinery.
Too early to be getting carried away yet - let's just enjoy it while it lasts.

In regards to Poole if you ask me Chris Holder don't seem interested this year!! his attitude even when Poole being beat is just so care free where as last year seemed a different rider to me in the pits!! As for us all I can show for it is ;D Enough said lol

Just maybe our luck is about to change at Brandon as Stuart Robson will be at reserve for the Bees and Oliver Allen replaces Joe Screen. Had we of met them last week, both were not signed and there is no way Screen and Mateusz S would have scored as much Had we met them after May 1st, Summers would be at reserve instead of Robbo ..... and had this been on Friday, Summers would have been unavailable and they could only use a 3.00 PL guest as he becomes 7th in their averages. We would have been missing Ricky too as they are at Redcar against Summers. Wolves new averages starting 1st May are .... GSA (start) 2013 9.10 (8.80) 9.37 Tai Woffinden 8.71 (8.68) 9.33 Fredrik Lindgren 6.24 (6.57) 5.57 Adam Skornicki 6.20 (5.79) 5.43 Ricky Wells 5.63 (5.53) 6.72 Ty Proctor 4.29 (3.71) 6.12 Ludvig Lindgren 3.00 (3.00) 4.15 Jacob Thorssell Had the rolling averages not have been in place, Ricky Wells would have been at reserve in May on 5.43, just edging out Adam who is averaging 5.57. The weird thing with Rolling averages however is that Ricky is averaging less than his starting average ..... but his GSA has gone up by 0.41

Swindon went to Kings Lynn and with Lewis Blackbird covering for Hans Andersen as he was riding in the European Championship qualifier and they lost 54-40 which puts Kings Lynn second and relegates the Robins to third.
These two look to be the big challengers early on and with Stead and Worrall at reserve, they have a team full of riders that can win races and Seb Alden scored well in the main body while David Howe is a decent signing to partner Iverseni.
1 Wolverhampton .......................... 8 3 1 0 0 1 2 0 1 0 419 310 22 2 Kings Lynn .......................... 8 5 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 1 378 335 20 3 Swindon .......................... 7 2 1 0 0 1 2 0 0 1 350 288 18 4 Belle Vue .......................... 6 2 0 0 1 0 1 1 0 1 274 276 11 5 Birmingham .......................... 4 2 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 0 203 163 10 6 Eastbourne .......................... 9 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 5 386 444 9 7 Poole .......................... 6 1 1 0 1 0 0 0 1 2 270 279 6 8 Lakeside .......................... 6 2 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 3 251 297 6 9 Peterborough .......................... 7 1 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 3 289 335 3 10 Coventry .......................... 7 0 0 1 2 0 0 0 0 4 272 365 1
Belle Vue are doing better than expected ..... when Zagar and Zorro dont miss flights while Birmingham have 2.5 points a neeting but have ridden 3 of the 4 at home.
Can only see Poole and Brummies fighting for a play off place leaving 5 teams I will say ending out outside the top five.

Well not too much has changed on the team front during our quiet period while Tai has taken over the world on the Individual stage winning the British title and the Czech GP.
Wednesday at Birmingham for me was a bit of a wake up call after relying too much on Tai and Freddie who picked up 29 points between them, only dropping points in one ride.
Ty Proctor rode well until his bucking bronco ride which ruled him out for his final ride but with R/R for Adam, off nights for Ricky, Jacob and Ludvig cost us two extra league points against a team looking good for the play offs (won at Swindon 45-47 the next night)
Freddie never looked like dropping a point all night, but what would have been the final result had it been Fred and not Adam missing this one ?
As has been previously said, it's a lot down to meeting teams at the right time and on this occasion we drew the short straw as the lower order struggled while Brummies still had Smolinski at reserve notching big scores each meeting.
1 Wolverhampton ... 10 4 1 0 0 1 2 0 2 0 516 395 26 2 King's Lynn ... 11 5 0 0 1 1 0 0 2 2 502 487 21 3 Swindon ... 9 2 2 0 1 1 2 0 0 1 444 381 20 4 Birmingham ... 8 3 1 0 1 1 1 0 1 0 400 331 19 5 Lakeside ... 11 3 1 0 1 1 1 0 0 4 481 523 18 6 Eastbourne ... 12 3 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 7 506 597 12 7 Poole ... 9 1 1 0 2 1 0 0 1 3 399 425 10 8 Belle Vue *-3pts ... 7 2 0 0 2 0 1 1 0 1 317 326 8 9 Coventry ... 10 2 0 1 2 0 0 0 0 5 420 487 7 10 Peterborough ... 9 2 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 4 387 420 6
In my opinion, only the new look Poole team could force their way into the current top four, possibly at the expense of Kings Lynn ....... but Wolves really need to keep picking up points away and undefeated at home if we want to finish top.

It is still far too early to call the top 4. Lakeside have made changes and they will start to move. Changes are rumoured at Peterboro' and changes will inevitably happen at Coventry. Belle Vue can't be written off - the 3 point deduction still has some mileage to run yet given the circumstances of Poole's cancellation against Lakeside. King's Lynn need to make changes to continue their good run now they appear to have lost Korneliussen for a long time with a fractured shoulder blade. Eastbourne could change around their fortunes if they get a good replacement for Shields. We have been very fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time but we should make the top 4 now. Wolfie

Poole: Chris Holder (capt), Maciej Janowski, Tomas H Jonasson, Robert Miskowiak, Przemyslaw Pawlicki, Dawid Stachyra, Rohan Tungate
That to me as a "new look" Poole is still very weak compared to previous seasons (that is not in rider order just alphabetical order)

Yes teams are switching line ups and it looks like Mikkel Beck is replacing Ryan Fisher. Eastbourne will be looking at replacing Schields but they can only sin like for like so may end up with Fisher ?
Coventry are close to the points limit so their changes are unlikely to be brilliant while the Poole new 1-7 has potential as THJ is better than 5.30 and Pawlicki could be a big improver and Stachyra and Tungate at reserve are quite strong. .... Is Lebedev still in Pirates plans ?
For me the 4 play off teams will come from Wolves, Swindon, Poole, Birmingham and Kings Lynn ...... with changes it comes down to who finishes the strongest not who is leading at the end of May !
